What do you believe is flying over New Jersey?

Uncle Sam if it wanted could track multiple targets back to wherever they eventually land. Simple report the next day that they tracked X number of targets and they all returned to various homes, ball fields, parking lots etc.

But no, its in Uncle's best interest to keep the chit show rolling. Good times.

A buddy of mine works at Newark tower. I asked him about it. He said “ha ha, it’s only aircraft. It seems that a bunch of people just decided to look up.”
You’d a thought most people in NJ knew not to ask too many questions about stuff they’d saw at night. Just Forgetaboudit.

Remember the clown hysteria 8 years ago? People everywhere were convinced that scary clowns were watching them from the woods. It got so ridiculous that my son's HS principal had to send out a phone message to parents stating "there are no clowns at the school" after a rumor started and panicky parents tried to pull their kids out of class.

Had some Saturday morning fun perusing the fringe X/Reddit threads, some of whom are suggesting it's not just unknown crafts... but aliens!

I enjoyed that perspective... Cuz just imagine making a cosmic voyage of light years and the first taste of earth you get is... f***ing new jersey.
Pretty sure there'd be less than 60 seconds of debate abord their mothership before they were in unanimous agreement that man kind was a lost cause, before promptly firing up their laser cannons and eradicating man kind.
Since that hasn't happened, it's proof enough for me that we can rule out extraterrestrials :)

Anywho! Time to go take the Arrow out for a spin. I'll be sure to turn my strobes and landing lights on/off in an unpredictable pattern to help add to the hysteria.

Actually, I’ve been well aware for 47 years now.

However, I’ve never been able to hover in my Cherokee or my Cessna.

Could you enlighten me?

There may be one or two GA planes being misidentified, but the narrative that they’re all small aircraft is simply not believable.
Some are helicopters, so me are business jets, and others are blurry pics of the neighbors decorations. Facebook drama does not mean factual.

Watch to see if it all stops for Christmas.

December 2023 there were similar sightings around military bases in Virginia, and the last sighting was Dec 23. That’s from WSJ reports. No official explanation, but the situation and timing looked to me like tests done by our own military to probe security, conveniently wrapped up before the holidays.

Might be similar now.

If one of these fools aims a laser at santa, I’m going to be very angry!

Now that this became a news story there are also people flying their own drones at night and posting pictures claiming they are seeing the New Jersey drones by them too. Facebook and X were full of them this morning from all over the country.

A week ago friday- I was coming into work at 5pm. Remarked to a talented, bright colleague that it was a beautiful evening, that Venus was shining brightly in the eastern sky, jupiter to the east.
He expressed surprise, didn’t realize they’re often readily visible.

My point? Many folks skywatch rarely.

And Van Drew is not a credible source.

If I’m an alien that has travelled eleventy billion light years to check out earth, is New Jersey where I’m gonna spend the majority of my time? Gotta be some other places to explore

We really need to bring back a modern version of jack Horkheimer and put it on every tv station and promote it across all forms of social media yesterday (with emphasis is the first few episodes of aircraft identification lights, landing lights, and airport patterns).

I think everyone has seen that "one" picture. Even @Checkout_my_Six posted it above. Of all the sightings, I'm sure that many of them are easily explainable or identifiable. That doesn't mean they all are.
Can you please post the ones that are not? I don't want to have to wade through all the idiocy.

I watched a number of the supposed videos. Maybe it’s me but the histaria is showing normal planes flying at night.

Now if someone is dumb enough to fly a drone over a military base, just take it out. Or follow it home. It’s hardly rocket science.

Are you under the impression that military bases in the US are ringed by sophisticated defenses manned 24/7? Because they are not. Most are guarded by a couple of 19 year old MP's at a gate, with a handful elsewhere watching TV or writing speeding tickets for going 26 in a 25 zone.

And now that it’s the current fad, many people who aren’t normally outside at night are out looking for drones, seeing aircraft, and deciding they’re drones. They have seen few, or maybe never have seen any, aircraft at night and don’t know what the lights look like, and totally cannot comprehend that just because it’s visible doesn’t mean it’s audible.

And then they go online and wail that the government should be doing something. Even in some of the gun forums, the bastion of self-proclaimed highly capable, tough, worldly man’s men, wringing their hands like a bunch of Karens at an HOA meeting.

My comment to Mrs. ateamer was that we’re being reminded of how gullible and panicky many people are, and really should be devising a way to part them and some of their money. ‘cause it probably wouldn’t be too hard.

Maybe repackage garage door openers to sell as drone defenders?

Instructions: if you see a drone at night, press and hold the button. Drone will fly out of your area.

Facebook user proudly proclaims her husband was able to shine his sniper laser on a drone. She then explains that the drone turned off its lights. Twitter user @TakeThatClouds is able to identify the location of the drone she lasered, it was Fedex FX3926.
Sounds like an easy to prosecute case, throw the whole law book at them, a bit of jail time and a million dollar fine publicized well will have the other idiots thinking twice before lasering aircraft.

Can you do intentional spins in an arrow?

Now we know why the drones are flying over NJ - they're there to ensure none of the devices below get smuggled into the state:

Well there you go. Reports of drones.

Not pictures of drones. Not videos of drones. Not a hammer and sickle marked drone falling out of the sky and landing in front of the FBO.

Reports...

I now believe reports of drones closed the airport. Might have been an airport opponent with a new SWATing tactic. Might have even been someone flying a hobby drone for poops and grins (and to cause a disturbance). But car sized, untraceable fleets of drones. Probably not.

Too bad everyone on the planet isn't carrying a still and motion camera to get some decent pictures of these things to help figure out what they are... ;-)

Yeah, you probably don’t believe in Santa either. Why you gotta be such a spoil-sport dude?

What can be dangerous is when citizens take things into their own hands and start shooting at the drones. I am not flying at night until this unwarranted panic over airplanes at night ends.
I’m concerned that some fool citizen will see one of these “drones” and try to play the hero in their mind and start shooting at an airplane.
It's already happening:

A buddy of mine works at Newark tower. I asked him about it. He said “ha ha, it’s only aircraft. It seems that a bunch of people just decided to look up.”
One theory I've seen is that the traffic congestion into Newark caused by the FAA's switching of Newark approach from New York to Philly:

He also makes the point that every single bit of footage he's seen is an airplane or helicopter.

But these are some of the most amusing people to watch whenever a perceived threat exists in the media.
I'm reminded of a video that went semi-viral back when fringe parts of the population were going nuts over 5G cell towers, thinking they were actually being built for some nefarious motive of spreading COVID.
In the video a couple guys with folded arms and self-proclaimed "alpha males" and "sheep dogs" weren't going to stand idly by while this country was attacked. With a combined weight of about 700lbs and looking a lot like an unjolly versions of Santa Clause -- it made their reassurances of defending this great nation even more compelling. I never read the follow-up but I'm sure MEAL Team 6 responded with decisive force and took care of the looming threat and we're all safer now cause of it. Unsung heroes, they are.

I imagine the same thing is happening on the more questionable corners of self-defense forums right now.

I hope these jabronis making tik tok's shooting lasers at airplanes are punished to the fullest extent. Easy marks.

I'll set the over under at 0.5 anyone taking the over??
