A comic genius. He received a Grammy in 1961 for a comedy album, and a few awards along the way, then an Emmy for his small and recurring role in The Big Bang Theory. It's great that a new generation was shown true fun comedy by such a skilled comedian.

It's worth going online and finding the interview where he tells about the ending of the show Newhart and how it was conceived and hidden up to the very last minute. Here again, he credits those around him and does a great job of telling the story.

We have all the episodes of The Bob Newhart Show on dvd. Newhart was good, but the first show was pure comedic genius with a terrific cast. I love the Thanksgiving episode and we watch it every year.

His book is excellent.

I actually went to a live recording of a Bob Newhart Show episode. We applauded and hollered a little extra long so we could hear ourselves on TV. I wish I could remember which episode it was.
 
I remember hearing his 'driving instructor' bit for the first time as a kid in the 80s, really hilarious. And from all accounts just a nice guy.
 
The whole Friday night line-up used to be terrific. Bob Newhart, Mary Tyler Moore, and Carol Burnett. Two hours of laughing to the point of exhaustion.
