17 kids sickened, hopefully they will be ok.

I want to know which one of you dummies opened the chem trail valve at low altitude over a school?

I guess better than the lavatory dump switch to reduce landing weight...

Those people living near LAX get s#!t on enough.

I waited too long coming up with a clever title for this one.

“Delta dumps on schools”
“EXtra fuel dumped on LAX school” (EXLAX)

There a good one in there somewhere.....

From the video, it looks like that fuel was dumped over several miles. Pretty sure it covered more than just one school. Who else was affected?

I didn't know Delta needed to dump fuel at LAX recently. When did this happen?

I've had plenty of physical contact with diesel. I'm not sure how you get injured by it unless it gets ignited. I suppose eye irritation, maybe if it was in an enclosed area you might feel a little sick? Nothing a shower won't fix.

Did they get hurt, or did they get mildly inconvenienced and their mothers went full apache helicopter mode?

Seriously...can't count the times I have doused myself in gas/diesel/pick a chemical of choice and I'm doing just fine.

Luckily the lighter didn't strike...

from Yahoo news:
"causing minor irritation to 40 children and adults, officials said.".............
......"Narvaez said the patients complained of mild skin irritation and were treated with soap and water."........
......"Diego wasn’t doused but some of his friends complained that their skin was itching."

hmm, might take some work to monetize this one.

Says who? (Sorry, too easy, lol).

I LOVE the smell of jet/kero, burned or raw.

Also, people seriously called 911 to clean a little gas off with soap and water??

My guess is either it was a pretty serious emergency with no time to avoid dumping fuel at such a low altitude, or maybe someone will have some tough questions to answer.

Not sure I've had kerosene itch me just from skin contact. In an open cut, though, and oh man I'll be running for the water.

I wonder how the traffic was with all of the ambulance chasers descending on the school in their BMW 3 series'. Must've been hell.

I don't know man they needed soap AND water to clean that off...

Back in the old days, kerosene made for a good antiseptic. ;)

Aren't all these kids vaping anyway? That's probably worse for their health

On a serious note:
I would have assumed there is some type of standard operating procedure and minimum altitude for fuel dumping, and if reasonable safety allows, then for dumping to take place over an unpopulated area if even for PR sake

To be honest, I would’ve thought so too.

FWIW: from what I recall, the ATC directs aircraft to a point to dump and has to okay the dump. In the event of a real emergency, most aircraft just land overweight. I would suspect this may be a technical fault or switchology issue. But if the kids were actually hit with the fuel, wait till the trees/grass start to die to see the real CA response.

To @Tantalum's point, it would normally be over the open water. We're talking friggin' LAX here. Or they would go into a hold to burn down to Max Landing Wght. So, if the dumping was needed there must have been something going on, right?

By the way, I see this was an opportunity to be jealous of the greatest state in the country to live.. for the people living in Nowheretown USA, here is some info for you:

California pays more than it gets back to the tune of 13.7 billion dollars.. I'm sorry if you hate the Kardashians but I spent the weekend skiing in the Sierra Nevadas and Sunday night on the beach, maybe next weekend I'll go 4-wheeling in the desert..?

Incidentally, Van Nuys, you know, one six right and all that, is located in California

What a jackwagon. Let me think, I lived in "the greatest state in the country" for 33 years. Nevada for 2, Texas for 19.

State pride is a really stupid thing. And it's really great to expound the virtues of a state where you can do drugs and poop in the street.

Run along and talk about your "friends" Cirrus. It's less moronic.

I missed your stupid Tax policy statement earlier. Divide taxes collected by the number of taxpayers. Hmmm.. then for every other state. Prove it's more. (good luck there)

I miss LA more than you know, but not sure what this pre-emptive factoid strike has to do with jet-fuelled children :D

It was hyperbolic on purpose to stir some action between @Ravioli and @N1120A from up thread I couldn't resist.. looks like it worked, I did laugh at Ravioli's response "okay Cirrus"
