Garmin Upcoming Announcement

The G3x Touch has buttons along the bottom like in that first picture, but the ordering is different. The GTN and the 2" navigators have the D> button on the side, and they don't have a "Menu" button. G1000 has a row of unlabeled soft buttons along the bottom. G500Txi only has the power button.

So my guess is that they're ready to announce a G3x Touch successor since that's what the button configuration in the first picture best matches. That, plus the fact that they're saying it's for both Certified and Experimental.

I'm hoping for a G3X to compete with Dynons lower cost TWIN engine PFD/EIS equipment.

A G3X available for the Seneca would be a great alternative to the rather pricey TXi which is Garmin's only certified Twin equipment. With the GFC 500 approved for the Seneca/Twinkie, I'm hoping that's what follows suit.

Dynons full kit for the Seneca is fantastic, but lacking a yaw damper and some integration that the G3X has available to it (SXM/StormScope/GTS800)

A man can dream........

Edit: spelling

Because(to me) a refresh of the same old stuff is boring, I'll shoot for the moon.

Maybe they're going to expand the autoland systems to be retrofitted into legacy aircraft.

Not high enough. Go passed the moon!

Autoland for Cessna 172s and Piper Warriors. Let's take all the skill of flying out of the students and hand it to automation :D

That's kinda what I mean.

Just climb in the plane, plunk in a destination, take a nap, wake up at your destination. :D

I'm not sure if this is A+ ****posting or a brilliant mind at work.....

On one hand I do like the idea in theory. But not the idea of shouting something in my sleep, the AI hearing it and changing course.

Set Winnipeg as my destination, cough halfway through the flight and slur out some gibberish, then wake up in Düsseldorf....

I would love to see an LLM added in that can fully listen to my proposed flight plan, help me plot the safest route and altitude, compute the required fuel load and give me a preflight weather briefing of only the items I need to know. Then when it's earned my full trust and we're about 50% of the way through its context window it would fully, hopelessly hallucinate during the in-flight navigation phase and send me off to God knows where.

Then at the end it would say "you're right for calling me out on that, here's the revised navigation", which would again be confidently incorrect. Could call it "adventure mode" or something and charge extra for it.

It's old, a little slow and doesn't have Ethernet. A newer screen would be nicer, too.
Exactly this. Great piece of hardware that just needs a refresh. From what I gather from the avionics types, the G3X is just about at the limit of what it can handle in terms of required processing power and memory. An updated model with an OLED screen, updated internals, and Connext capability to receive and forward updates to all the other Garmin products would be amazing. I fly GI 275s but would definitely step up to an updated G3X in the future, in this plane or a future one.

This was posted by a Garmin rep over on VAF: "Something new and incredible is coming for your experimental aircraft! Click here to join Garmin’s launch event for a special announcement on July 8, 2026, at 10:00am Central Time."

The rumor mill on VAF has been tilting at this for weeks-- consensus is a new EFIS that the crowd over there are dubbing the G4X. We'll know for sure tomorrow.

An updated model with an OLED screen
That's a recipe for screen burn-in. All those static menu items would leave a mark.

Experienced that with an OLED phone used as an EFB. Display some light background on it and I can still see "MENU", "MAP", "PLATE", and so on.

Interesting. OLED seems to work fine for the GI 275 and makes for an incredible display. I wonder if some sort of pixel shifting could be employed to reduce burn-in.

It isn’t always about better. It’s business. Garmin needs to maintain their market domination and to stimulate sales. We’re all suckers for shiny new gadgets. I have a G3X Touch and it does way more than I need as it is, so I’ll watch to see the new big thing, and will be happy that my “old” G3X Touch still does everything I need it to. At least until Garmin sunsets support, and I don’t expect that to happen for a long time.

That’s nice, but that’s not revolutionary or incredible as the marketing hype states.

I'm very curous as to what it will be. I've had the non-touch G3X coupled with a non-supported TruTrak autopilot for 14 years now and both are getting long in the tooth. A new EFIS would allow me to skip a generation adn incorporated Garmin Servos (yes I know I could do it now but its major surgery that I'm putting off until a full panel upagrade) and would maximinze my system support.

They advertised the gtn xi series release the same way.

Anyone have a link to the actual stream?

Screens for 430s? Just sayin…

Or a new and improved 430 & 530 to match the interfaces of the newer 175,355,375, etc...... with a discounted upgrade period...

Opps... my alarm just went off... got to go..

It’s gonna be AI. Gotta put AI in everything.

So that's an interesting discussion. If AI were baked into a next-gen platform, what would be helpful?

Nomination:

Voice transcription of clearances from ATC into nav inputs. Controller gives you instructions with fixes, AI gives you text read back, you confirm with controller, then hit accept button on screen and it populates into flight plan.

Having just spent a well-appointed luxury car's worth of cheddar on the only autopilot option for my plane, the GFC600 -- I am expecting to hear the GFC500 is certed for Barons, and is available now for the price of a middling Camry.

I've wanted this for a decade. I don't think we need AI for it, just pick a good and efficient offline transcriber. I haven't tried Apple's local version to see if it's better than Whisper Large, and maybe that's a weekend project someone should do ;) Since let's face it, we all have ipads in the cockpit now, may as well leverage them.

Surely, someone can vibe code this with Claude. I kind of want to try. Anyone have a handy database of fixes? When a controller says "banky" that could be BENKY, BANKY, BANKI, BNKEY, etc.

While we're dreaming, I'd like a consumer-level CPDLC solution with auto-population into the avionics flight plan upon hitting 'accept'. AI-based voice transcription adds a layer of potential error that CPDLC would avoid.

Why do we need ai for cpdlc? That’s just a text message. And frankly, if we’re not trying to figure out their accent or dialect, ain’t hard to go from a text message into the gps.

Need? We're talking wants, my friend! We're all perfectly capable of copying a clearance and putting it into a GPS. But if I can avoid listening to a controller laboriously spell out a long list of five letter fixes and just get it in a neat text format, I'll take it. And if I can then copy that clearance into my avionics with a single button push instead of hand-jamming it? *chef's kiss*

Just re-read your comment. We don't need AI. Ever. In anything. Period.

Data comm.

You're not going to believe this, but it's not approved for Piper Cherokees yet.
