Wait, did I miss that you're overhauling your engine?

Forced i to overhaul is more like it. Had low compression found at annual (#2 40/80 #3 30/80). Pulled those cylinders and found scratches on the piston skirts. Looked at lifters and found them in very ugly condition

Yes, doing a field overhaul. Today we got the new case primed and painted. Wrapped up the day with setting the crank, new cam and lifters in the case.

Tomorrow a club member is flying me over to KHAO to pick up my cylinders. They have been restored/rebuilt by Triple V Engines 7 days. Hopefully have the engine back on the archer by tomorrow evening

Amazing turn-around given the nonsense that is the current market space for those things. At any rate, thanks for the cheeky referral; no longer a burden for me, as the airplane is pending sale. Fingers crossed, hoping to put this chapter behind me.

Wasn't really being cheeky. I really wanted you to find a solution.
 
Nice I love to do engine overhauls. Not a lot of aviation experience though.
But now I am too busy flying around going nowhere. Fricken love it.
Still have all my engine building tools. Hopefully they will bury them with me.

this and the other picture make me cringe! NEVER let a con rod lay on the case like that! it needs to be protected by at lease a shop towel wrapped around it. rods are one the most highly stressed parts in an engine and all it takes is a scratch to start a stress riser that can result in a failed rod.

CAUTION
After the removal of a cylinder and piston
the connecting rod must be supported to
prevent damage to the rod and crankcase.
This is done by supporting each connecting
rod with torque hold down plate ST-222,
rubber band (discarded cylinder base on
seal rings) looped around the cylinder base
studs or using plates as shown in figure_ _

I was waiting for this post by someone. Not saying it is not a concern. But after the fact really does not help N4984R so why rain on his parade?
The same thing was pointed out to me when I did the same work only wasn't planning on putting it back togther at first. But then did reassemble and flew it more many more hours without an issue.

my post was not to rain on anybodies parade, but to tell people not to do it in the future. its kind of like driving drunk. are you going to crash and die the first time you do it, probably not, but do it enough and the odds go way up that you will. the point is why do something that the manufacture does not recommend, something that does have a potential to cause a catastrophic failure, that can be prevented and possibly save you life and at least a large amount of cash by doing it the way the manufacture says to. same with the use of torque plates when removing all the cyls. it been done for years without using them, but it increased the possibility of a failure so why not do it right.
