    Airshares Elite - gone...

Given their costs I would guess that are not many people who could afford their prices and did not want to own their own aircraft.

    Crash at GAI (Gaithersburg, MD)

I see people saying that since they moved in there next to the airport now it should be closed as their safety is more important. I wonder how they would feel if the town had to compensate the businesses and owners of planes keep there if they shut down the airport? The airport is owned by the...

    Crash at GAI (Gaithersburg, MD)

So in your world if your not paid by someone else to fly the plane then it's a hobby? You discount the entire population of people who have the skills to both fly and have a job that requires then to travel or those who make money by flying while not employed by another company.

    Crash at GAI (Gaithersburg, MD)

You keep bringing up this idea of Hobby Pilots when it's just not the case here. GAI is a reliever airport for BWI and as such receives business flights as well as other GA traffic. The pilot is question had all the ratings for commercial airline flying and was flying a aircraft that is well...

    I hate math...

Then you need to use 1.24 per mile for the plane. (That's the IRS rate for private aircraft )

    Midair at FDK (Frederick, MD)

Using your analogy a driver would not be at fault if the kids ran into the road. Seems like the helo ran into the road but all the facts are not yet known.

    Do you get hold instructions

My first actual hold was shortly after 9/11 when traffic in the DC area had to be on a IFR flight plan. It was severe clear but my home airport ( KANP ) has a single runway and no RCO. I had to circle above the airport until the previous traffic cleared the runway, shut down and called in the...

    Do you get hold instructions

I think I've gotten holds twice in about 10 years of IFR flying.

    Foreflight and ADSB speculation...

There were plenty of GPS units that only displayed lat/long in the beginning of the GPS usage. What I was looking for was a GPS that displays Lat/Long and has the ability to send that out via wifi/bluetooth so the tablet could use a IFR certified position.

Post Checkride Sticker Shock - your mileage may vary

As others have said, I totaled my cost to get my private at 6k back in 99 and have refused to calculate costs since then. It would just upset me.

Sold car now police knocking at my door

I had a friend in California who had the same problem. There the plates stay with the car so it's up to the buyer to re-register it. We found out that there you can report the sale of your vehicle to MVA and if the buyer does not register it you are off the hook.

    Foreflight and ADSB speculation...

I think that the people who already have large displays in their panel like 530s or avidynes will go the in panel route and those who don't will go the portable route. hard to justify buying the large panel display when tablets do the same work for much less. I'm waiting to see a panel mount...

The medical system is so corrupt

If there are so many people who think that for profit healthcare is evil, why doesn't some liberal org start their own non-profit health plan?

10nm water crossing tomorrow. Any advice?

Do you plan all your overland flights so you can glide to a open area? If not then I would say use the same approach to over water. Don't sweat it.

    First flight after annual

I just did a post annual flight last week. Pretty much as others have said. Flew around the airport at 2000 for 10 minutes to check things out then flew over to another airport with the intent of landing to check things out. Was doing a practice GPS approach and when I was on a 2 miles final...

    Lear crash in Freeport, Bahamas

The crash was at 5:10 which would have been pretty dark by then. Don't know how far from the airport they were but if the crane was not lite then that would likely be a factor in the crash. No way to tell yet.
