You do realize that there are 1,000's of people on the forum that could care less, right? The thread title is going to attract a certain group of people. Many of them are not going to like Dan. Grouping the entire forum as you are doing is narrow minded.

The funny thing is your choices were pretty limited in school. Now, they’re much greater, especially in the category of free entertainment/infotainment.

As an adult, I get to use my critical thinking skills and personal freedom to choose how to spend my time and who to listen to.

What I don’t get is why people feel I have to change my opinion of somebody when that opinion has been informed by 15 years of publicly available records from multiple agencies in multiple jurisdictions that indicate this is a person I would not freely associate with in real life.

Yes, I, not Gryder, am the pontificator with a hoard of minions expanding on my vast experiences and why I know all things about every accident. Sure!

I don’t watch his videos any more, since I watched a few and saw how off they and he were/was. But I’ve actually learned quite a bit off of forums like these over the years. From what to do to what not to do to how easy something would be to do to how grateful I am to have not had the same outcome to things I legit didn’t know and was glad to learn to things I thought were dumb empty calories to be ignored.

But like you said—don’t like, don’t watch them, or read here. Each to his own.

The Greek gods may have been mythical, but Mount Olympus is a real place. In fact, there are at least two of them: one in Greece, and one in Washington state.

I have learned many useful things from this forum, some of which are safety-related. Like any other communications medium, one has to learn how to separate the wheat from the chaff.

It would probably be easier to find an audience on the one in San Francisco, although at 553 feet, that's really more of a hill.

Reminds me of the time when a DPE asked me what a straight gray line on the San Francisco Sectional was. Turns out it was the "I" in "Sierra."

Instructor did same exact thing to me once, about 20 years ago or so. Must be a "thing" in the teaching community...

Yup. Usual practice during a BFR is for the CFI to point at the circle (obscuring the rest of the name) and ask what it represents.

They used to use a more-circular font.

Oh - let me be clear - I don’t watch his content and am not about to start. I’m just not going to miss the opportunity to learn from it because of what I may think of him.

I will say I do have a bias. Military aviators review the Safety Investigation Board and Accident Investigation Board reports as a routine mission planning process. There’s a ton of rigor behind that process.

All the uTube speculators fill a niche between gossip, entertainment, and “aliens”, which is why I pay little to no attention to them. The NTSB docket at least lets one look at all the information gathered and enables one to learn what they can from the evidence.

Alas, there’s nothing really new under the sun. Categorically, we’ve figured out the various ways we crash and we figure out the various whys it happened; there’s nothing new under the sun.

But new pilots don’t have that knowledge base, so they’ve got to learn it somehow, which is why all the folks doing this stuff have an audience over time.

Ugh. Beautiful plane. Nothing like polished aluminum! I hope they all make a full recovery. Even DG! Hows the tree? I guess it won.

Looks like the engines and props were untouched....maybe?

What seems odd is that a collision with a tree at that same speed in a modern auto would likely result in little or no injury, other than to the wallet.

Considering that the plane only outweighs a 2023 Chevy Tahoe by about 100 pounds despite having two engines, I think the modern auto has a bit more room in the weight category to enhance safety and collisions features.
