Why does the good doctor not block this individual?

I block anyone with that style of writing, whether directed at me or not. Just not worth the aggravation.
Because the other individual likes arguing as well…they also like reporting people. :happydance:

The true experts (medical doctors here) not only provide good advice, but they also show that some of the "advice" given by those without their knowledge and expertise is wrong. They can't provide that service of refuting the bad "advice" if they ignored those posters. Lack of acknowledging those posts, as ignoring them, leads to people incorrectly inferring that the doctors agree with that advice. I obviously can't speak for Dr. Bruce or anyone else, but it seems like a reasonable theory.

Perhaps all posts, anon or not, should need to be approved by some means. I recognize the burden that would put on the mods or someone.

Fair point. But fact checking every post is a heavy lift. I'm not sure that's achievable without mod authority.

It was a voluntary service they provided. Why should that service continue if people are continually p*ssing on it?

They just "fact checked" the replies in the medical section, AFAIK.

Moderation is a fine line. Some level of ad hominem attacks have always been tolerated (referring to post 78). But where is the line?

I guess we'll find out.

IMHO, no other aviation forum comes close to this one, save maybe Beechtalk, but unless you are a Bonanaza/Baron owner, you're a second class citizen over there. The one mentioned above looks pretty quiet to me. I like to actually see some new activity when I log in.

Actually, Beechtalk is the forum it is because you have to use your actual name to register and post under. There is no hiding behind an anonymous post.

"You know who you are!"

actually, after all these years, I'm still doing some sole searching

I'm a member of a photography forum where personal attacks are forbidden. Disagreements are allowed, but the posts must be respectful. Actual names aren't used. OTOH, some people who posted under their real names here were often rude.

you brought up a problem with ignoring posters. I was merely pointing out the same problem exists if they aren't here at all.

If even half the SMEs here thought silence was consent the traffic would be unmanageable. I expect the moderation would be as well.

Nauga,
who can silently judge you from afar

I have been made fun off, told I had bad grammar, and that i was wrong. People put terrible things on the internet and would these people do this to my face. Well maybe?

Thanks to all who run this place

I think Bruce wanted to have comments from non-Doc's blocked at one time.....kinda like putting us in the fish bowl....for viewing only and not participating in the OP and other Doc's conversation.

Confession: when I was brand new to PoA, about 4 years ago, I threw a personal insult at someone.

I still remember the thread. It was titled "don't be That Guy" and was about someone arriving at an airfield in a manner the OP disapproved of. I am firmly opposed to disapproval, so I voiced my opinion that the OP was being overly snooty and perhaps HE was That Guy. To punctuate my argument, I finished with "I'll bet you wear epaulettes." I thought that was quite clever at the time.

Two things happened. First, the OP blocked me. Second, the mods put me in the time-out chair for a week.

I learned my lesson. Mostly.

Only time the mods censored me was when I asked a lawyer why he left law to become a pilot. I still don’t get why they put me in “time out.” :( But they do a good job and I appreciate the time they put in.

FWIW, I would've argued against that. That's such an aviation specific insult I feel like we should embrace it

Now if you said "I'll bet you fly a high wing" OTOH....

Amateur!

I asked about a taxi trek I used to get to 18 that looked suspiciously like a um.... "organ"
My phone rang 20 minutes later and a POA mod was on the other end. Don't give the mods your phone number.

On the other hand, a member here once told me I deserve to be on an NTSB report.
It used to be a little different around here. POA goes through phases.

This thread is kind of a dumpster fire. I would be for a med certification forum where a question is asked and a doc responds, all other comments not allowed. The constant sniping about the FAA whether correct or incorrect gets tiresome. Maybe we could have another forum called axe grinding for some of those posts?

Four black stripes count? Askin for a friend…
