I don't think I met Dave & Jeanne Allen, but I always loved their beautiful Waco YKC. Very sad day in aviation.

They were great folks, very nice people who were all in for general aviation. I met them at our weekly fly-outs; they were very well thought of by everyone. They will be sorely missed and leave a void.

Safe on the ground 95 miles from their destination, and took off into known low overcast and fog to get there.

What a shame.

A BIPLANE into IMC? Are there ANY IFR rated bi-planes? If so, why?

AN-2 comes to mind, especially the turbine converted ones.

Open cockpit. Pretty decent avionics but your still bouncing around at 85 its...

The value of an IFR Waco is punching through marine layers and making approaches to get down below a layer.

It's like my old 170. I kept it IFR certified when I owned it in SoCal, but the value was limited.
