The original "I don't know it all" of aviation.
I'd like to see some of the more unusual businesses you guys have come across. Especially those that might be an unusual combination of business types or industries. For this exercise, photos are a requirement.

I found this place when I took a forklift starter to a rebuilder located in the same strip mall...

Phases Accounting and Auto Repair. It's one business, not two under one roof. I've also rented Penske trucks there several times.

You'd expect something weird in Sturgis, SD:

Not an unusual combination of industries, but a great name nonetheless. This was seen in a small town in the Pacific Northwest:

This one always struck me as funny for some reason.

This was one of my favorites, it's in a 12 story mancave shopping mall full or all types of industrial parts, tools, and supplies.

Okay, that was funny, but I should not be laughing. :wink2:

Shoot, that was tame compared to the jokes Pryor made about the event. BTW, he wasn't smoking crack, he was freebasing up the coke with the old method. After the Pryoring Inferno everybody switched to baking soda method which doesn't require volatile solvents.

Donald Grippo D.D.S. - An aptly named dentist I'd say?

Dr. Carver is the Chief Medical Examiner for the state of CT.

A buddy of mine on the BBQ circuit used to carry his business cards that said: "Attorney at Law and Catering"

--

We do have a local chiropractor named Dr Bonebrake.

Sorry - no photos.

I can't find a picture but Keene's depot in Bardstown specializes in guns and country hams.
I always thought that was an odd combo.

We built a new house and had a contractor install a septic system. He also services septic systems and pumps them out. A necessary and honorable line of work. He also has a catering business on the side.

:nono:

Not in my world.

I can't find the speciman at the moment, but unions have been in the news, lately(Michigan). My Dad's youngest brother retired from the Seaman's International Union, after decades in San Francisco base. After that he worked on Oakland Bay, on the tugboats, for Mr. Crowley who owned all the tugboats from San Diego to Alaska. Then he was elected to a high position on the Inland Boatman's Union of the Pacific, a position which took him far and wide up/down that coast and he became well-known (or hated). He always introduced himself via his business card: INTRODUCING Doug Crute, Senior Business Agent, Inland Boatman's Union of the Pacific, the SON OF A ***** from the union with all the answers.

If he didn't get reelected he'd go back on the tugs, but he spent many "separated" elections as the "SOB."

This Doc used to be in Tampa. With that name you either have to go with it (as he did), or be a brain surgeon.

30 years ago -- the first time I visited Kailua/Kona -- I spotted the "Pu Ping Thai Restaurant." Big surprise -- it's no longer there. I can't imagine anyone eating their food.

No, I'm not kidding. I doubt I could make that up....

Pu Ping is apparently a Thai palace. Very, very bad name for a restaurant.

I remember being on my way to Toronto in 1998, seeing out of the corner of my eye, a sign for a restaurant offering multiple cuisines:

"Luigi & Wong Restaurants
1105 Wellington Rd S
London, Ontario N6E 1V4
Canada
Luigi & Wong Restaurants Description:
Luigi & Wong Restaurants is a good Chinese,Italian,Continental restaurant in London, Ontario, offering you a great choices on their menus."

I googled, to find them: They must be good, as they are still around after all that time... They are located in a Mall now, but at the time it was a way side restaurant.

Holy Hell -- I came back to the thread to look for updates and I see a reference to the town that I was born and raised in! I had to do a triple-take to make sure I really saw "London, Ontario."

L&W was pretty good back in the day, but I don't think they've been open for a while. IIRC, they were always in White Oaks Mall.

In the 1990's I relocated to Portland, OR.

Imagine my amusement when I turned the corner and found this retauraunt.

(make sure you'e viewing my sig line to get the humor)

I know in this economy there have been a lot of merges: banks, car companies, etc. But I think I'd have a hard time keeping lunch down at this restaurant.

No sh*t?!

Some day I'm going to start a combined sausage shop and photo studio, to be called...

The Link 'n Portrait

(you may have to be a music aficionado to get that one)

Or maybe a combined ice cream parlor and auto lube shop, with a Knights of the Round Table motif...

Sir Arthur's Cone and Oil

(try and deduce that one...)

Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson could figure it out.

Not my photos, but I have seen a "Pho' King" store before. (Hint: In Vietnamese, the "pho" soup is prounounced more like "fuh".)

Or rather, "phao" depending on the region. Fuh is more a northern dialect.

So... if they close a location... a sign goes up saying, simply...

"No Pho King Way."

:)

No my photo, but I thought it fit here...
