The "Back in my day" Thread

Heck, check out the early remotes. Had tuned bars in them like a doorbell (only ultrasonic). That's where the remote got the nickname "clicker," back then, when you pressed the "Channel Change" button, it actually clicked as it struck the bar,

Sometimes, you could get the channel to change by rattling your keys.....

Dropping a handful of change would do the same thing.

Speaking of burns, I was in an antique store a couple of years back and saw this:

Die-cast metal foundry, just like every kid needed back then.

I still kick myself that I didn't buy it....

Back then? I had to look it up, but that was from the mid 1990s.

We were n a cruise ship and one comedian did a section where he would start jingles and have the audience finish them.

Then he pointed out that we were the last generation to be able to do that, as we grew up with 3 national channels, seeing all the same commercials.

Some Examples:

Rice ......
My bologna has a first name .....
N E S T L E S .........
Ai Yi Yi Yi Yi .......
Mama Mia .......
Butter...
Sorry Charlie......

Rice a Roni, the San Francisco Treat
My bologna has a first name, it is Oscar, my bologna has a second name, it is Meyer
Nestles makes the very best..... CHOCOLATE
Ai Yi Yi Yi Yi I am the Frito Bandito
Mama Mia, that's a spicy meatball
Butter - Parkey
Sorry Charlie, Starkist wants tuna that tastes good, not tuna with good tastes.

I can bring home the bacon….

That one would never fly today.

Yep, the Breadwinner brings home the bacon without stopping at the store.

Do kids still play wiffle ball?

There are almost 1400 different record/tape jackets for this album. From Finland to Namibia many different stylist minor changes, but anyone around the globe seeing any of these knows exactly what it represents, with or without the writing.

Iconic and timeless for sure.
And the number of variations is no surprise to anyone who has tried to catalog their record collection (using Discogs or similar) and accurately identify which version of each record one owns.

Communal handwashing in a large maintenance shop. Activated by a step ring that circled the basin, maybe an inch or two above the floor. My Army Guard Aviation Support Facility had one.
They had those in the men's rooms (and, I assume the women's rooms) in the Engineering building at FTU/UCF when I first went there. I don't think they actually had women's rooms when it was first built in the early 1960s as they assumed no women in engineering. But the 5 story building had mens/womens on alternating floors when I went there in 1977.

Metal oil cans with the spout you'd have to shove in to cut a hole, and the "ding ding" when a car ran over an air hose to summon the gas pump jockey (me) to whom everybody bitched about the price of 67 cent gas.
Yep, I attached that spout to many oil cans.

73--88 and 91-- on Bilboard's top 200 . . .

Ironic when you consider that: "There really isn't a dark side of the moon. I mean it's all dark . . .."

Yep, I attached that spout to many oil cans.
I recently watched a Law & Order rerun where a guy was murdered with on of those spouts. No clue how old ithe episode was.
