You may have seen their cans around and mistaken it for a beer, but Liquid Death is a canned water company with an interesting name.
What does it have to do with aviation? Well, they're running a promotion that I can only describe as... captivating. It's like the Pepsi's "win a jet" all over again (except they claim this legit -- see FAQ at bottom of my screenshots).

So it looks like I'm going to be very well hydrated over the next 12 months.
And since I'm an optimist I'm going to start reading the POH so I know how to operate my L39 correctly on day 1.

Hope you've saved up your 1/2 million dollars to pay the IRS when you win. I guarantee they didn't lowball the aircraft value for the write-off....

Interestingly enough, I went and read the rules and it's only $100k you'll need for the tax man. I'm really surprised by that.

I’ll take the cash prize instead; can’t afford the opex of that platform.
 
How much do you think it cost for fuel alone to take it around the pattern once? Of course add reasonable ground run from the hangar to the runway. Yes a lot of variables, but your estimate is better than mine.

... I can scrounge up enough pennies to pay that bill...
But agree -- that's less than I would have expected. I'd have thought they juiced up the asset price (on paper) to get the best writeoff.
 
I actually know someone with an L-39. Last time I heard him mention OPEX it was a couple grand per hour, I think. Apparently parts are readily available and they don’t break often.

His jet is the only plane I’ve ever seen with a working Blue Mountain EFIS.

They’re covering the tax burden as well apparently.

I've been fortunate enough to be doing some work with an L39 pilot locally He said it's averaging about $1,000 an hour in fuel alone.

A friend had one and told me he planning 90 GPH at cruise. Of Jet A

A T-28 burns 60 GPH of 100LL.

Hmmmm.

Given that it’s an old Soviet turbofan, that 90 GPH in cruise I’m sure translates to well above that for takeoff and low altitude high power maneuvering. The MU-2 was efficient and that was about 110 GPH at takeoff and 60 in cruise. I’d figure a similar if not even worse ratio for the L-39.

@SixPapaCharlie ‘s friend saying $1k+/hr in fuel sounds about right.
