Wheels up! ........well, not really. I decided to drive. But I'm still following a magenta line that says I'll be there around noon. :)

Really one of those borderline cases.

This was the view:

Looking pretty much south. Direct course to LZU would be at around the 11 o’clock position, and the clouds were rolling in from the right. Field is around 1,800’, but there’s terrain up to nearly 4,000’ in between Copperhill and LZU.

If a baby was dying in Lawrenceville and I had the donor liver to save it, pretty sure I could have safely made the flight. But for lunch? As much as I like you guys, not worth even a little risk.

Like I said, maybe next time.

I'm out, showers all day with the field going down to 1500 overcast for the return.

I'm here. Just waiting. Should have swung by EAA690 to see the youth build projects.

Weather here is great. Too bad it's not for some to get here.

Would have liked to come down today but at work. Little bumpy out earlier with winds from the south but not too bad.

The Chop House is good, but I have no idea what Hawthorne will hit you up for parking.

Another great meet up, glad it ended up working out. Nice to see some familiar faces and meeting new ones too. Thanks to @write-stuff for being so generous with us out-of-towners, much appreciated!

First time in the 201.

Bill is the man!

Looking forward to the next one!

I’m always amazed at how every airport diner looks the same. Same ceiling tiles, same models, same 80s decor, same Formica tables.

Heh. Looks like a good time was had by all.

Ah, bummer. Sorry it didn’t work out for you. I knew when I didn’t see you at the table it must not have worked out for you.

Next time!

Nice! What time did you guys depart FGU?

Ok. Went by there around 1045. Cessna was departing 21 below us.
Oh ok. Yeah, we were there at that time. Saw somebody take off downwind on 3 in a Tri-Pacer. Quite a daring fellow in these winds!

Yep. That’s what it was. I knew it was a high wing. Did a left downwind dept to the north.

Would have liked to come down today but at work. Little bumpy out earlier with winds from the south but not too bad.

Rough as a cob on the way south over the rolly polly hills between Dalton and Rome, enough so that I pulled the speed back 20kts for a smoother ride. No sense beating your brains out.

Bumpy in spots on the way back, but not enough to reduce speed. We got back in no time.

Enjoyed lunch and meeting some more folks. My friend is John Morgan. He is not a web forum guy. He's based at PDK with his RV-6 and was LZU flying some of our youth today.

Hated to miss it. I was all set to go last night. My wife had gotten sick yesterday and I ended up being up half the night.

John is a very active volunteer in homebuilt camping at OSH. Super nice guy.

Sorry for the late reply, but it was a busy weekend. It was great to see everyone, old friends and new! @write-stuff, thanks for the burger and the spiffy hat, your hospitality was greatly appreciated. Lance, thanks for letting us look at your new bird, very nice!

I've got to get an IPC done soon, this flying low is for the birds! On the way back we had a plane pass very close off the right wing on the way back, opposite direction, same altitude. ATC called him out altitude unverified, and I don't think the guy was squawking as we have both ADSB-in through the GDL-39/Foreflight and a Ryan TCAD and we didn't have him. I put my landing light on, maybe he saw us, but even with two of us looking we didn't see him until it would have been too late. Nuts.

I have ADS-B in for both the 750 and iPad, and have had SkyWatch in a SR22, had ATC call out the traffic and I still didn't see them. On those times I often think, "It's a good thing they aren't trying to shoot me down (dogfight)." Those rarely get anywhere close, which with the haze is largely why I don't see them, but still. :( I always like it when I call out seeing the traffic before they see me. ;)

We believed this guy to be doing air work, as ATC advised of repeated course changes. I didn’t end up getting contact on him until they were to our extreme 2 to 3 o’clock and less than a mile opposite direction. So definitely a little too close for comfort.

Any talk about when the next SE meetup would be? I finally joined a club in Knoxville after moving from Atlanta and taking about a year hiatus from flying. (did all my training at KLZU) Looking forward to meeting a few folks on here at the next one.
