Used to be that a pocket watch was how you'd track a train and it was the only away to avoid a head-on collision.
Which Vancouver? For the next month I'm just a few blocks from the Vancouver WA Amtrak depot.I'm gonna be on Amtrak 513, the Cascades, Vancouver-Seattle, tomorrow (well, today).

worked absolutely great - have been able to track and prep for their arrival - thanks!
And....despite my predictions of days-long delays, derailments - 13 mins late is all.
Retracting ill-thoughts of the rail system.
I think he north routes are more likely to be on time than the central routes. I took the Denver-Chicago a couple years ago (starts in SF area) and it was 2 hours late just getting into Denver. Eight hours late into CHI. I love trains, but never again Amtrak. Would love to take the canadian rockies trip sometime
They got fairly lucky. My luck with Amtrak with friends and family has been either on time or insanely late. Leaning on the insanely late side.
Out here on the left coast we have the "Coast Starlate".For a long time, the Lake Shore Limited was known as the "LATE Shore Limited".

It sure was still the late shore limited a few days ago. 3 hours late leaving Chicago and 3:30 late into Cleveland. Thank God it's comfortable at least.Amtrak runs on the freight railroads and much depends on how heavy the traffic is. For a long time, the Lake Shore Limited was known as the "LATE Shore Limited". Things have gotten better recently.
...In Germany I took the train everywhere. In Europe, you can actually use it as a viable mode of transportation to get to work, or go any given place you need to be, not just on some narrow corridor on an infrequent schedule.
