Have picked out a Dell laptop and now I'm chatting with "Aakanksh" from Dell about pricing.
Dell sent me a flyer for "Black Friday in July" special "up to 50% off!"
Despite pointing this out, Aakanksh has so far refused to budge more than 10%.

Not sure how motivated s/he is by commission. Have noted that I am ready to give him/her a credit card number, "want to complete a laptop purchase promptly!" haha sort of like they do when I am still researching. During presales, I sent him/her a snap of my 5/5 star rating of his/her chat (I would have any way, the info was well done and helpful).

Next I will ask about his price matching program which Dell advertises, having picked out a competitive laptop to show him/her (similar and cheaper but with some features I don't like, and lacking some I need).

I won't be a dikc about it, but Dell is offering these things (the special, the price-matching) so they should come forth about it.

Think I will have any luck?

No bargaining tactics. My last two laptops have come from their auction site.

Regardless, remember, you are in control. You have money, they want it. You can be all the "dikc" you want.

There's not a lot of wiggle room in hardware. The reps have a minimum price, and they can't go lower than that.

As a general rule, whether buying computers or anything else that's negotiable, when the sales rep stops offering me better deals when I say thanks, but I'm going to try my luck with a competing vendor, I know I've reached the bottom. In the Brooklyn of my youth, where practically everything was negotiable, we used to say "Keep walking out until they stop calling you back." Once that happens, they've given you their best offer. So walk back in and take it.

Many years ago I saw a sales flier at work for a Dell, I forgot to take it, and was thrown away, I called them, total jerks, different ads in different markets, they mysteriously couldn't find the add I saw, $100 difference higher, I got so frustrated I said I would never buy one ever, and I haven't budged.
 
lol, my wife bought a Dell decades ago using their financing program - for years she would refer to "Dell Hell" because of the grief over that program.

Ah, sorry, wrong. I never get so set on something that I want, or need, that I can't, and will, find it elsewhere. Thinking you can't walk away is foolishness. That's why so many car dealerships continue their high pressure sales tactics. Because it works on weak minds.

Companies like Dell the guy you're dealing with has no power to negotiate.
 
Negotiations going ok. Being very respectful but firm. I really think it is overpriced by looking at competing machines (and shown salesperson this), need to get it down a smidge yet.
No big loss if we can't work it out, the Acer etc laptops are pretty fine too.
Biggest annoyance with Dell is their mailed ad "Black Friday specials up to 50% off, blahblah" and Price Match are all lies.

Or vast swaths of the IT career field at most major corporations, isn't it?
