Midwest POA Breakfast Meetup Thread

If I have my plane back by Sat I'll go but right now that's uncertain(annual).

In - might have some friends with me.

Is tomorrow still the plan?

I'm game. I'm in one of those fun non-WAAS G1000s, but at RPJ LNAV mins are only 100 higher than LPV so it should be alright.

Same here. I need some approaches this month anyway. I'll leave it up to the group, but if others are showing up I will too.

I'm now on standby for a last minute LifeLine flight tomorrow but if I don't have it, I'm flying in the muck to Rochelle.

Getting some approaches in will be nice though the RFD TAF isn't nearly as pessimistic as that hourly forecast. And I've stopped looking at those hourly forecast as they've been incorrect way more often than correct.

It's odd, I've found them to be really good - But in discussions with various pilots, it seems like everyone thinks they're either really good or really bad, no in-between.

Generally, I like using all three sources - TAF, MOS, and Daily - as well as whatever else I can find from other sources. If they all are roughly in agreement, I have a high level of confidence that they're correct. If they all say different things, then the weather guessers are, well, guessing and I can expect that conditions will be changing quickly/wildly and to keep an eye out.

Right now, they're saying:
RFD TAF: P6SM SCT025 BKN040
RPJ MOS: P6SM BKN025
RPJ Daily: 10sm, 1100' ceiling and improving.

So, I guess we'll see. The forecast up in my neck of the woods has improved significantly since I looked yesterday.

If the forecast is bad, it's accurate. If it's good 50/50.

I have an airplane again so if weather works out and I can wrangle the family up tomorrow I might make it, we'll see.

IMC playground here in the morning.

I'm guessing it'll be doable for the vfr guys at Rochelle, too.

I’m out for today as well.

Looks like we could get out but there’s a good chance storms may prevent us from getting home so that means we’re out unfortunately

Got my approaches in; grabbing some go-juice at dnv, I'll be about 20m late.

I'm also running late. Had to wait for the ceilings to come up a little. Only a 15m flight for me.

Ef me in particular apparently. Hopefully we can actually make another one of these eventually. 626F8102-474D-4B53-B1F8-1A38BCC6E947.png

Looks like you made the right decision.

We had a good time...5 planes and 6 pilots. Food was excellent, albeit a little slow, all on-brand for RPJ. Those of us who were on time got a loggable approach, and everyone except @masloki got a hold...

It was a good time! Wow that’s quite the wing span on the DA42!

I have GoPro footage that I’ll check on this evening. If it turned out alright I’ll post on YouTube for everyone.

It would help if a new thread was started with the title saying when and where. Hard to keep track of new meets popping up

The title of this one gets changed as appropriate... And it's a heckuva lot easier to keep track of when it shows up in my watched threads!
My thoughts exactly. When new threads are spun up that involve the same group -- I usually miss them unless someone throws at "@" mention my way.

yeah this thread is pretty easy for me to follow and know exactly which meetups I'll be out of town for.

Anyone doing anything [flying related] Memorial Day weekend?

Just saw this, looks like a new restaurant will be opening at St Louis regional (KALN) later this summer. I’ll try to get a PIREP when it does.

Is it open now? Gotta fly down to that area in a month or so to drop my dad off to pick up his new Sierra Denali.

I guess there's no debate amongst us flatlanders on high-wing vs low wing.

I don’t think so. The FB post I saw said this summer but no specific date.
