DO I need help?

I live in southern Florida and been pretty happy with my current situation. But I have a little friend I go see once in awhile up by NYC.

I fly up there frequently and I do my best not to go IFR as others know how to track my flights.

I normally won't even get FF as sometimes you show up in the system. SO I simply keep the NRST ATC facility tuned in and just listen to traffic all the way.

I've done this trip 17 times in 2015. On more than one occasion it has been IFR - so I "accidentally" invert part of the tail #. N123AB becomes N132AB and i've never had a problem.

Here it is Christmas time and I'm hanging with my family contemplating what I should do.... If I give up my trips up north, there wont be anywhere for me to fly to..

What to do... I feel guilty but I know I'll be going again soon....

Just block your tail number, simple stuff, I've always had mine blocked at the FAA level.


Giving a bad tail number seems like a great way to be marked in the system as a potential drug runner, "terrorist", or overall possible bad guy.

I'd imagine with all the computers nowadays giving a wrong tail number would be very easy to detect especially if you gave a unassigned tail number, the tail number of another plane currently flying, or you're mode S or ADSB and your plane is coughing up one numbers and you're claiming another.


Just block it.

I know a man who used to do what I think you're describing, before the Internet Age.

Even so, some secrets are hard to keep forever. His wife figured out what he was doing, and that was the end of his marriage. So he married the one he had been visiting.

His new wife knew what airplanes could be used for, and that was the end of his flying.

Just to confirm what others have said, just get it blocked at the FAA level. I did that as soon as it was available, and have had no issues with it. FAA can see you, but the public, flight tracking companies and the FBOs cannot.
The only time I show up is when flying Angel Flights, since that's a different tail number.

I got the message after several reads,first I would not give false info to the FAA,get your number blocked. Have a good time ,sooner or later you will get caught.
 
Do you need help? Well, you have a pretty good story outline. If you can develop the characters and construct a plot which will hold the reader's attention I think you could have a pretty good short story or novella. Hell, you might even turn it into a screenplay for a Lifetime flick.

OP, it's probably best to stick to as much of the truth as you can. So you have a job assignment that takes you up to NYC from time to time. Happens.

Oh, you're in Florida. You're a retiree. Hell, the fact that you can get tail at that age, suggest to me that you don't have to alter your tail (see what I did there). But seriously man, even if you ride a golf cart on the streets during daylight hours, there are plenty of reasons why you might go up to the big apple on occasion. You can even make them theraputic. Which apparently they are.
 
I'm confused why you need to hide it. I seriously doubt your wife would be able to tie "flying to New England," with "getting some strange in a different state."
 
So if you're flying from S Florida to NY for a special session with a friend, I'm going to guess you're at least gone the whole day probably two. In this case, I would think the flying is a perfect cover to explain why you're AWOL for that length of time. I'd say use your tracks you leave in the system as an alibi. This is your hobby and you're spending a day or two flying someplace that is all. The fact that you're hiding the sausage during your stopover is a trivial detail she doesn't need to know about. :goofy:
 
Moving her to FL would probably be cheaper then flying to NY all the time. Or is she a working girl? Just find a local(but not too local) friend. Ocean is full of fish and FL is surrounded by ocean.

Well I'm not a retiree. I'm well under 50... and yes it happens to be a Cirrus as well.... I'm just feeling guilty because the whole family is around my house the past couple days and I'm adamantly checking the forecast.

I do ok with "travel days" as it's known i'm in the air... but it's been noticed that I go "dark" whenever I seem to go up north... seems the clock is running out on my little endeavors....

Moving that someone to Florida would be great and I know she'd go 100 percent. But the ole saying "don't s*** in your own backyard" comes into play.

Actually I never said she wasn't getting any service of her own. Lucky my money (what's left of it) is well hidden, but yes, I know I'm a scumbag. Feeling quite guilty about it. Thanks for reminding me.

Come clean with your wife. Tell her you can no longer keep your true desires bottled up and say the only way forward is an open marriage so you can spend more time with your little friend up north. Best case she agrees. Worst case you no longer have to be worried about being found out.

There is no difference between the two IMO...and most won't hesitate to screw their neighbor six days a week. The only reason they don't do it seven days a week is because they're sitting in the front pew on the seventh.

Feeling guilty and doing something about it are distinctly different. The latter is quite laudable while the former considerably less so.

Seriously. EVERYONE has some sort of guilty little vice hidden away somewhere. A little bit of alcohol? A little bit of smoking? Maybe popping a few prescription meds when they weren't really needed for pain? Friday night poker sessions? In the scheme of things, a Friday night poke-her session isn't the worst one could do.

so it appears like a number of folks believe that a man's word really isn't worth anything any more? It's ok for our politicians to lie, cheat, steal, as long as they promise us something in return? It's ok for a guy to cheat on his wife and violate his vows ... as long as ... ? what?

I'm not espousing a holier than thou attitude ... just really really tired of where we're heading (or have been for quite some time, maybe).
