If I have a subscription for a non-was 530, we just recently purchased an Ovation with a was 530....question, will our subscription for the non-waas provide us the proper waas data for our new 530W or do we need to change our subscription?

Are you adding the WAAS in the same plane? Or in another plane? Or replacing the non-WAAS?

It makes a difference in how to handle the subscription.

Thanks. I never knew that. Now I need to "accidentally" :D swap cards between our two club airplanes and see what happens.

I’ll be interested to see the outcome, but I would assume since the data cards in Garmin ADBM indicate they are serialized to the individual navigator/tail number combo that they would throw an error of some type if swapped between airframes.

Then again, that may just be window dressing.

The 430 / 530 series navigators don't care about serial number. Neither do the 430w / 530w. You can swap cards 430>430, 430w>530w without issue. The cards are different however between waas and non-waas versions, so you cannot swap 430>430w.

The GTN's are limited to serial number and that subscription may not be sent to different serial numbered units.

we bought a new plane that has a waas 530- our old plane was non-waas

I flew a plane for a couple of years that had two 430's. One was WAAS, the other one wasn't. The cards could NOT be used in each other, as I proved more than once because I'm a slow learner on the necessity of remembering which one was which.

Nothing bad happens, it just gives an error on startup.

It also meant flight plans would not crossfill.

I would call Garmin about switching your subscription to the new unit. They may credit you with remaining on the old subscription. Of, if the price is the same, just change the unit ID info.
