Cash-strapped Air Force can't afford memorial flyover...

I don't think this is new. We've had cessnas and cherokees fly over football games. I'm not gonna lie though, that was kinda funny. The star spangled banner was probably done playing by the time they were done flying over. Not exactly impressive. I do respect those guys for still doing a fly...

    Glass cockpit vs steam gauges

I like both for different reasons. I've had students ask that same question. Usually what I tell them is get one rating in one type and one in the other. If I had to pick, I'd probably still lean towards conventional for private and glass for the instrument. Most aircraft available for rent are...

    DUIs automatic killer?

Be careful about not turning this post into a "don't drink and drive" post and bad experiences. He knows it's bad which is why he's asking. What he wants to know is what are his options and if going for a career is worth it. The answer is yes and no. There are jobs out there that can look past...

    DUIs automatic killer?

Or find something that doesn't require you flying to canada.

    DUIs automatic killer?

Probably be hard getting into canada for a while. DUI is a serious offense there.

    Glenwood Springs, CO

Yea she doesn't really want to go swimming and caves and mines are out and we're definitely not climbing. I already saw hanging lake this year anyways so it's ok. She's a little limited but she can still get up and walk around some. I'm sure we'll do some shopping and sight seeing. I thought...

    Glenwood Springs, CO

So I need some recommendations. I'm planning to take my grandma on a train ride through the mountains to Glenwood springs, Co next month. She's dealing with her 4th and last battle with cancer so this is sort of a bucket list item for her. She can't climb mountains, is afraid of caves, and...

    Absolutes in Aviation

Fly the plane, absolute number one. I think I've seen most of these responses somewhere ;) "I can fix anything you do but don't pull anything red or turn off the key, our day would get interesting." Part of pre-flight to a new passenger. "Right Rudder!!" Number one thing I said as a CFI.

How many dual X-Countries until "Proficient"

A typical student takes somewhere between 2-4 XCs. It depends on not just showing your ability but also other factors such as weather or time between XCs can have an influence too. The thought process to the first solo and the first XC is similar. If you can show your instructor that he isn't...

Can somebody explain to me the general disdain for SP?

I've gone on to the ushpa.org website and looked for instructors. None are listed in nebraska. I wouldn't be able to do it this year anyways but I have looked. There is a typical glider club north of Omaha but thats as close as you're going to get.

Can somebody explain to me the general disdain for SP?

Sport pilot is indeed difficult to obtain in some areas. I think Lincoln, NE is one of the few places that has the sport pilot opportunity. Columbus, NE is rumored to be another. We were debating too if this little expensive airplane was really going to "take off." It took it a while but it did...

Can somebody explain to me the general disdain for SP?

This is just what I've seen so take what you like and leave the rest. Sport pilot was mainly designed for people that can't get a medical and I believe gave people a cheaper option for getting their license with restrictions. I personally don't like the fact that when I taught sport that I left...

Sport Pilot rentals with medical required?

I know we don't require a customer to have a medical to rent our 162 but I'm sure all it will take is one mistake and that will be history.

Private Pilot License, Part 61 vs. Part 141

Just remember, unless you have no choice but to go part 141, the ultimate answer will be what do you think of the flight schools. There can be fantastic 141 and horrible 61 schools and vice versa. Talk to the flight instructors. If you find one you connect with, go with it. It also helps to do a...

    Your Airplane and Pictures???

I get a wider variety when I fly everyone else's toys but it would be neat to own my own someday. So at work I've got the Mustang and 4 King airs. Occasionally I fly a Skycatcher and various cessnas while teaching or doing my own flying.

Is there a Pilots message board out there where expletives and profanity are acceptab

Re: Is there a Pilots message board out there where expletives and profanity are acce What would be the difference in introducing yourself then? I'm not trying to kick a dead horse, just making a point. If it makes you feel better though, I can't remember half these people until they say their...

Re: Is there a Pilots message board out there where expletives and profanity are acce Why do I get the feeling that those who don't want their real names known will never go to Fly-ins or meetups of any sort?

    Hello...

Flying over corn isn't the problem, it's how many buddies you want to take with you while you do it. A 140 isn't a real good 4 person plane but if it's just you and another person and a bag or two, go for it.

    Lets make Friday 'Joke Day'!

There once was an old lady and an old man whom were married. One day both of them decided to sit outside in their rocking chairs. They rocked back and forth. The old lady looks at the old man and slaps him across the face. "What the heck was that for?!" "That was for 50 years of bad sex!"...
