Coyote strike

So Warner Bros. is doing live action remakes now too?

Need to open up hunting at O'Hare... I'll take one for the team and volunteer.

They must be making an organized attack. I had to abort takeoff yesterday due to a couple of them on the runway at CRP.

I heard a story just after arriving at a remote test site. I have no idea if it's true or not but it started with TINS so take it for what it's worth: Large airplane returns from a test flight. On postflight inspection what looks like coyote remains are found on the nose gear, but there's not much left. No significant damage to the airplane, cleaned up, flying again. Not long after, rumors of animal mutilations in the area are heard based on someone finding a mangled coyote carcass on their well-secured property.

Nauga,
who knows it's aliens

Ironically there was another incident Monday morning in a Chicago Aldi's store involving a coyote. I know Chicago has a lot of problems, but didn't realize coyotes were one of them.

My pal hit a coyote taking off from El Paso at night in a 210. Insurance totaled the airplane but I think it flew again.
They can cause some damage.

Chicago sure has problems, but coyotes are everywhere now, even Central Park in NYC. When I was flying powered paragliders at the old Griswold Airport in CT, it was quite the sport to fly around and chase coyotes off the airport in the evening.

I saw a coyote inside the fence at ORD, decades ago. It was on that grassy knoll, just looking around. I’ve seen them a number of times near the forest preserve areas. It wouldn’t take much to sneak inside.

At Oshkosh they often have pictures of critters removed from the ORD airport area, deer & coyotes mostly.

We get a lot of them here ... if they repave a runway, be very careful. Had one at Silver City Whiskey Creek after they repaved (winter) that would just look and laugh after several low approaches as they sunned themselves ...

Had a coyote caught on the motion cameras outside my house just a week ago.

They're occasionally at the airport, but a bigger problem is birds. Airport staff have a full-size coyote statue ("Wiley") that they set out to try to scare the birds away. Then on CTAF, we get a lot of radio calls about "Coyote on the edge of the runway."

A long time ago my friend, manning mobile, accused me of raising the gear on my T-38 to descend and scare off a stray dog. He did scamper.

Had an instance of the heebie-jeebies after a uneventful night landing when I finally understood what would cause the runway edge lights to randomly blink on short final.

Coyotes aren't as bad as elk. One day I was doing practice circuits at BJC and reported to the tower that there appeared to be an elk standing between the two parallel runways. That could seriously ruin your day if you hit it. Before I finished I saw some guys running around in a 4WD truck trying to chase it off.

We had a rental Lance that was landing in Arizona and had two elk run out onto the runway. They dodged the bigger one…the one they hit dressed out at over 800 lbs.

A number of years back, the Pakistani Air Force lost an F-16 on takeoff to a hog strike....

Started my takeoff roll and a deer picked that moment to walk onto the runway and stand right in the middle facing us. We came to a stop. Only then did the deer walk off the runway.
