Were you awake at midnight in Jan 1st? (2025, if you have to ask)

Was but didn’t want to be. The battle outside stopped about 0130.

Didn't stay up, but I woke up some time around midnight, I assume from the noise. Then my youngest daughter called, took a moment to figure out how to answer - so I wasn't that awake. (She was calling to tell me that she was engaged. Finally.)

I was, but only because I had 4 teens in my house who were determined to stay up. No way I was going to be able to sleep with all that racket, so T and I watched a movie with the 12 YO. In years past we'd go to bed, but now we're going to have teens in the house for at least the next 15 years, so i suppose that's how long I'll be worthless on Jan 1.

Not even once in my life I was not awake for the new year.

I got up to pee but can't really say I woke up.

I don’t remember the last time I stayed up until midnight. The thunder was crazy in NY yesterday too. Woke my daughter up around midnight

The war calmed down quickly last night, mostly quite on the western front by 12:30

According to the Associated Press Stylebook, midnight on Jan 1st isn't for another 7 hours Eastern time.

I'm a night owl and my wife works WOCL. I can't remember a day in the last 3 years I wasn't awake at midnight.

I wasn't awake at midnight, but I was awake at 12:30. And 3:30. And 5:30.
When you gotta pee, you gotta pee.
It sux getting old.

Yes but I was alone rebuilding a snowmobile clutch and didn’t notice the passage of time. I don’t care about new years I’m just naturally nocturnal.

It's been a few years since I bothered staying up to see the new year. Even the newborn granddaughter in the next room didn't wake me up.

We were awake, but we were mostly celebrating the fact New Years Eve/Day is a holiday without alarm clocks or work the next day...and then the cat woke us up at 7am to cough up a hairball.

Nope, went to bed at 1030, was asleep by 1045.

I'm so much into new things, I stay up every night to welcome the new day. So yes, I was awake but I will be tonight and tomorrow, and the day after... Just don't wake me up before 9!

It depends on what time zone. I was in Korea so no, not there. But I was awake (and getting ready to go to work) when it struck midnight at home. Meh.... I'll say no.

If you've seen one ball drop, you've seen them all drop.

I was but not by choice. I’m on my 4th mid shift out of 5. If I’d been home I would have been asleep before midnight but my doofus neighbor would have woken me with his fireworks. The wife is so pizzed at him. Scared one of her horses into a fence

That’s a lotta mid shifts in a row. My experience is the mid was the last shift of the week. Kinda turned a 2 day weekend into 3 day weekend. If you could get a snooze in. Do you work one man mids, or two?

My wife and oldest son share a birthday on NYE so it's kind of a thing for us to stay up. Tried watching some of the NYE shows last year and was seriously disappointed in how far they've strayed away from being anything remotely family friendly. If I'm watching these shows with a 7 year-old and an 11 year-old, I don't need to spend my night explaining "adult" concepts. This year was Transformers One (for the second time) and then Dick Clark's (Ryan Seacrest's) show to the end. Came into it right about the time Carrie Underwood sang. I noticed a significantly smaller crowd in the Square than in years past. Sadly, I was not surprised yesterday morning when I turned on the news.

hopefully the horse is ok. That idiot neighbor needs to be educated about animals and fireworks.

Isn't Midnight 1/1/25 the midnight between the 1st and 2nd?

So the question should be how many stayed up for midnight 12/31/24.

Nope. If I'm up past midnight, something must be seriously wrong.

I don't really get New Years as a holiday. Yay us, we flipped the calendar!

Everyone is on leave for the holidays and we’re really short on supervisors until April. We work alone on Holidays and mid shifts.

Do you want to specify which time zone?

Our neighbor hosts an Argentine New Year's party. We drink the champagne at 10PM EST (because it's midnight in Argentina). We went back to the house but I had a brisket to put in the smoker for our New Year's Day party, so I was still up.
