It was "Regional," because DFW was originally named "DFW Regional Airport"; that name went by the wayside many moons ago, so the "Regional" name has no logical anchor to the airspace other than inertia and habit (which, to be honest, could have probably been enough to justify keeping it, but... y'know).
I'm calling it "Lone Star" now, and the controllers are answering about 50-50 Regional/Lone Star.
