the "not worthy of it's own thread" thread

Was attending a city "Block Party" in my suburb with the wife and kids this weekend. Was standing by myself near a stage where a band was getting ready to go on and was approached by a guy at random. Turns out he saw that I was wearing an aviation-themed shirt and wanted to talk a bit of flying. In this brief discussion he pulls out his phone to show me pictures of a mangled Cessna 175 that he had put down in the trees a year ago near Wetumpka, Alabama while enroute to Tulsa (guy is apparently from the Jacksonville area) after the engine came from together. Came out without a scratch despite stalling it into the tree tops. I didn't think to ask him if he drove or flew commercial for this year's trip to Tulsa, lol.

Looked it up and found that last flight on flightaware.

Yeah, probably some lawyer, but interesting to think of what someone could have done that that lead to this.

I changed my 172 engine oil. 9363 hours.

Heck, even a lil’ old Dakota will leave a big dent in the side of your pickup.

Speaking of oil... where are y'all buying cases of oil these days?

it’s hot.
It's craziness. Density Altitude here is about +2800ft, at noon. This heat wave is insane and I don't think I remember anything like this.

The plane I rent is a low wing canopy so I've nope'd out of flying for the past month.

I thought it was just me. I managed a few early morning flights recently just to keep the plane from sitting but with the canopy closed while on the ground the heat is tough to take ...

so, those drone "pilots" are smarter than we give them credit for, eh?

My cylinder went on vacation to Florida. I won’t be getting a stupid T-shirt.

As much as I'm a scifi nut, I've been trying to like the series "The Ark", but oh my GAWD the writers don't know even the most basic science.

Those poor actors, getting no help from the writers...

That's the worst...

My favorite is movies with hackers where they just mash the keyboard at 10000 words per minute typing gibberish until BOOM they're logged into the mainframe with super user access.
... And of course they have all the institutional knowledge of knowing where to locate resources and how to manipulate them instantly... Very, very realistic.

No hacking scene is accurate unless you have two people furiously typing on the same keyboard.

My favorite is the bad guys log into whatever bank they want to and transfer out all the money from the good guys account, and there's nothing that can be done about that.

I haven't seen an accurate depiction of electronic intelligence or hacking in TV shows or movies other than some historical accounts of some WW2 things, with the exception of one Frontline bit on the hunt for and elimination of Pablo Escobar. Haven't watched everything, though, some maybe there's something out there.

Ya know ….. maybe not a bad thing they don’t show anything real about hacking. We have enough bad guys hacking away already in the real world.

It's that time of the year that I've been reading Captain Jason's Leaseback advice... and maybe I can make it work

Remember, just because it might be legal at the state level, doesn't mean it is at the federal level. :)

Are flight schools really looking for Twin Bo’s? :)
Well, the hangar situation (availability and budget) is the hold up there. But an opportunity has arisen for me to take a 172 slot in our club. That’s when the gears started turning. It’ll allow me to have some control over the plane I could do my CFI in and later give instruction. Also I’m being told that financing is easier on the 172.

Political discussions on POA, maybe we can make it work...

Nauga,
whose only exercise is in futility

Got home last night about 11:30. Got in bed and noticed light coming in through the window like someone was in my driveway. Then the lights went out and came back on a few seconds later. I went outside and saw my truck’s (2016 Ford F150) exterior lights and bed lights were going on and off by themselves. I looked for an issue and found nothing out of the ordinary. Stayed up until 1am trying to find the problem. Google didn’t help all that much. No idea what it could be
