Those two Manhattan Transfer songs are amongst their best work, Alan. Good stuff.

Redtail, your appreciation for Metheny is in line with mine. His stuff just rolls you around in warm honey, makes you feel... serene.

Not really a "song" (but neither is Metheny's work), but Stevie Ray Vaughan's Riviera Paradise is something special.

All that Doors stuff is magic.

Just so much good...

I never knew much about him when he was alive. Like Jimi Hendrix, I thought he only played rock. :dunno:

Having ears that are tuned to Jazz (particularly instrumentals, never cared much for vocals), and the guitar being my favorite instrument (dad played Wes daily), I was pleasantly surprised the first time I heard "Riviera Paradise" by the great Stevie Ray Vaughan. RIP

Oh, speaking of "songs", I heard Metheny say that everything he's written over the years is one long continuous piece. Or something like that:yesnod:

Being a vocalese fan myself, Manhattan Transfer and Lambert Hendricks & Ross/Bavan are two of my favorite groups.

Another Night in Tunisia is right up there with some of my favorites. MT, Bobby McFerrin and the legendary John Hendricks made for a masterful recording of Dizzy Gillespie and Frank Paparelli's Masterpiece.

I have many but two that come to mind right now are Jackson Browne's and "Last Resort" (performed by the Eagles) and "Fountain of Sorrow".

If you can get past her politics, Joan Baez's rendition of "Fountain of Sorrow" is beautiful.

I went to the Eagles concert in Lincoln a month ago. An amazing performance by all. Perfect!

Manhattan transfer,"love for sale" "please" by bing crosby with Eddie Lang on guitar backing him up, fantastic talent , anything by Eddie Lang! Early eagles " midnight special" with fantastic banjo solo by Bernie (can't remember his name but was an original Eagle. ) "night, here comes the night" by Jackie Wilson, an underrated singer for sure. Ella Fitzgerald, anything.

Bernie Leadon.

YES! Mr. Henning is correct. The song "Midnight rider" is featured on an early album of the Eagles. Cannot understand why he was not better known as he is also VERY good on guitar. He is still out there picking I think! Bernie is something else! I always liked the Eagles a lot. All were VERY talented.

I like a lot of very different music... except country... unless you count Mr. Cash as country... then I like country.

I would say punk is my most loved genre though, so first tune that came to mind:

Last Caress by the Misfits.

"Watermelon in Easter Hay" Frank Zappa

Not really a favorite, but since it has an aviation connection I thought I'd mention Brain Eno's "Ambient 1: Music for Airports". (Looks like someone has put the entire album on Youtube) :

http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=RfKcu_ze-60

According to Wikipedia :

"The music was designed to be continuously looped as a sound installation, with the intent to diffuse the tense, anxious atmosphere of an airport terminal. Eno conceived this idea while being stuck at Cologne Bonn Airport in Germany in the mid-1970s. He had to spend several hours there and was extremely annoyed by the uninspired sound atmosphere."

I ran across it while searching online for music people found useful or recommended to study or read by. Something pleasant but not distracting. Recently found "Atmospheres" by an artist named Deuter that I like even better for background reading/studying music. Though silence is what I prefer most of the time.
