I'm a certified Bob Dylan junkie, Ive been to dozens of shows, Dead Head been to a few (10ish) shows just wish Bobby would STFU about politics, I really don't like discussing my Elvis problem, suffice to say there's a velvet Elvis and an autographed picture of Elvis from the 1956 Tupelo fair hanging over my fire place.

I'll go with Rusty's list in lieu of my own. All good selections, but I think for Hendrix I'd prefer All along the watchtower. Yes, I know it's a cover, yes, I know it's cliche. Good music though.

I was flying from Waco - Texarkana through a really bad storm once in my 172. I was shooting for a gap about 50 miles wide between 2 severe tstorms, I could see the lightning in the distance and I turned on that song. That's a really fond memory.

I checked my Man Card for the Dad Card a long time ago. I just put Angels #4 and #5 to bed and increased the song tally by a few.

I have many but two that come to mind right now are Jackson Browne's and "Last Resort" (performed by the Eagles) and "Fountain of Sorrow".

Love the Spinners.

I put em' right up there with Elvis, Porter Wagoner, Gram Parsons and DLR for stage attire and dance moves. More of a rubberband man myself.

 
I'm from the more is better clan, and can't say I disagree with most of what's been posted already.

But when asked for one, I am at least 51% sure Thunder Road by Bruce Springsteen is a good choice.
 
My early teen years coincided with the late 60s, so most of the songs I like a lot are from roughly that era (though there are lots of exceptions.) I agree with the sentiment that "favorite" is not possible to pin down since it depends on ones current mood.

For example, the following recently matched my mood, but while I like them all I'd be wary of calling them top favorites:

"Master Jack" by 4 Jacks and a Jill. 1968. Amazingly it wasn't until a few days ago that I actually saw the band for the first time (thanks to that time machine called Youtube.) The lead singer (Glenys Lynne) reminds me of Agent 99 (Barbara Feldon) from Get Smart - love the smile she flashes at the end of the song:

Just about anything by Eric Burdon and the Animals, such as:

Me too. That very certainly is Grace Slick. When I left the Army in early 80 I think it was, I was going to school in LA and working for A&M Records on Hollywood part time. She came in one evening to do some backing vocals for someone else, and I set up her mics. She was very particular about it, and we worked for about 40 minutes to get what she wanted. She's very outspoken, and direct, but once we got it done, I told her I greatly admired her body of work in rock. She gave me a grin and a hug and a quick peck on the forehead.

I had a woody for weeks after... :D
 
I don't know that I could ever say one song is my favorite, but anytime I think about the songs I most like listening to, Blue Sky by the Allman Brothers is always near the top of any list. Looking at my itunes library show these as most listened to...
