YOUR favorite song?

Just one song? Could never limit it to one song.

I feel the same way about Roger Waters :mad2:

Amen to that. Waters is such an arse itmake it hard to list to PF without thinking what a jerk he is

I checked my Man Card for the Dad Card a long time ago. I just put Angels #4 and #5 to bed and increased the song tally by a few.

You have it all wrong the "dad" card is a bunch of levels up on the man card. It's kind of like turning in you private pilot card when you get commercial.:D

I'm a huge fan (over 25 years now) of one of the greatest jazz artist/composers of our times. Pat Metheny! He's simply amazing.

I've seen him in concert close to a dozen times and also had the good fortune of meeting him in Manhattan at J&R Music World, where I got his autograph!
Can't wait to see him again.

Here's a few clips...enjoy,

What is YOUR favorite song ever? Feel free to post several if you have multiple favorites. I'll do mine a few posts in.

As a professional musician, this question is nearly impossible to answer, so I'll limit it to popular music since the '60s. For me--and the reasons for this are completely quirky and personal--McCartney's "Blackbird."

Everyone has their own reasons for liking specific songs. Most of my favorites have some sort of memory associated with them. My first song - Breakfast in America came on right after I got picked up at the airport in Orange County California by a girl I had just met. (We had flown together the day before) we both at the same time said "I love this song!" And sang it together - we both had the words memorized. That was the start of one of my favorite weeks ever.

I've never actually posted that story before on PoA, although I did meet her through here. It's a good'un that I like to tell at the fly-ins.

Hmmmm....
Drift Away, Dobie Gray
Soulshine, Alman Brothers
Seven Bridges Road, Eagles
Make it Last, Montrose
Every Step of the Way, Steve Walsh
Long Haired Country Boy, Charlie Daniels
Crimson & Clover, Joan Jet
I've Got the Music in Me, Kiki Dee
Son of a Preacher Man, Etta James
After the Gold Rush, Valerie Carter
Bat Out of Hell, Meatloaf

Tons more, then there's the entire Rocky Horror sound track

Picked up this masterpiece on Blu Ray the other day and can't put it down!
The Orchestrion Project

The one man band. Amazing to see all of this equipment working in concert.
Too bad I missed seeing it live.

Check out how he starts the bass part and keeps it going. Incredible piece of work here!

Enjoy

Having grown up listening on my dad's reel-to-reel..to the late, great Wes Montgomery (whom Metheny met when he was 13 and called, one of the greatest Jazz guitarist of all time).

I think Wes and dad would be amazed if they were alive!

For those that have Netflix streaming and like Nirvana look for the movie about the Nevermind album. Really cool.

Wow! I had totally forgotten about this thread. My tastes in a mere 6 months have changed from classic rock to a much more electronic genre. I guess I'm just becoming more like other folks my age.

Check out this masterpiece from the genius himself!

I saw this live in 2005 at The State Theater in New Brunswick, NJ.

This will go into the history books as one of the greatest jazz pieces of all time!

Awesome!

Sit down, grab your favorite drink and relax. This is a long one:D

Believe it or not, I actually like that quite a bit. I don't like elevator music jazz, but damn, there has been some talent out there for a long time. I can cruise on that.

That link is blocked, but I had to mention that I was born in New Brunswick, NJ... I don't hear that place mentioned often, at least not out here.

Cool.
I thought you were from Edison. I've been in New Brunswick a few times. At least three times to see Pat. There are some nice restaurants near the State Theatre.

Yeah I see that link was removed for copyright violations. "The Way Up" is 68 mins long! (The longest piece of music I've ever heard).. and that person decided to post the entire DVD:lol:

Well here's a clip of the first four minutes.

Nice! I was born in New Brunswick, lived there for some time period I don't remember then grew up in East Brunswick in the forgotten corner next to the Raritan River. There was a small boat marina there when I was a child but it is gone now.

WOW!
Congratulations Pat, you've earned it.

11/5/13
"Pat has been elected to the prestigious Downbeat Hall of Fame. Since 1952, when the readers poll began, Pat is only one of 4 jazz guitarists to have been inducted, joining Charlie Christian, Django Reinhardt and Wes Montgomery. Pat also won Guitarist of the Year for the seventh consecutive year."

A living legend and master of Jazz Improvisation.
On this song, he starts out on his custom made Pikasso guitar which has 42 strings and four necks!

Pat Metheny, Christian McBride and Antonio Sanchez.

Redtail, your appreciation for Metheny is in line with mine. His stuff just rolls you around in warm honey, makes you feel... serene.

Not really a "song" (but neither is Metheny's work), but Stevie Ray Vaughan's Riviera Paradise is something special.

All that Doors stuff is magic.

Just so much good...
