Why do Older People Drive Corvettes?
It never fails when I look over to see who is driving a Corvette they are older and driving 10 miles under the speed limit. What gives?

Yep. Only people who can afford them!!

I didn't get my roadster til I was 50. No $$ before then...it was all in the plane. Hey, old guys can rule! Nothing generates smiles from others more than driving past in a bright yellow roadster. Even the Harleys give me thumbs up for the ride.

Its just like flying...the older people have the time and money. Go to most EAA fly ins and you will find most are old, and I'm in my 40's and saying they are old. haha

So they can feel the cool wind rustle in their ear hair. Possibly the only hair they have left that they're legally allowed to let rustle in public.

Jorts made me laugh. Nailed it. :D

Ehhh, give me any 60's 70's car / truck with big block V8 tunnel ram with dual carbs, point ignition and easy to change gear Ford 9" rear. Lol, also big gas tank, a lot more fun than most vehicles on the road!

Honestly, I’ve always thought of a Corvette as the redneck sports car. I like the new body style, but I’d take a Mustang over one any day.

Ted the Banman said the Vette is dead, so that means they’re now hipster cool, and retro is new again, man, so like, whoa, dude, nice caaarrrrr...

Exactly. Guys lust after them when young but cant afford them or their lack of practicality until they are old. And unlike most things young men lust after, the vette is still available and has only gotten better!

Bought my first vette at 34. I still put it up over 120 from time to time.

"All the guys, who really have the money, are too old to have a good time with it"
"Too old, to have a fast car and drive it"

I think there is something iconic about their overall look and road presence. Good ole American muscle. Never thought of it as a supercar competitor but recently their performance is nothing to laugh at!!

Lol people who are driving them I see are much older.

I said it made me feel like 55, not look 55....:lol:

I used to race cars in my earlier days, real V8 cars on tracks from 1/4 mile dirt to paved 2 mile tracks. I know my reactions are not as quick as they used to be, but the excitement is still there for me.

Why do old people drive the slowest? They have the least time left. When I'm that age you won't get me to drive below 100.

COOL old guys drive Austin Healeys or MGs.

Good lord, seriously. This is suburbia man, not a redneck. A redneck spends $70,000 on a pickup truck. Don’t they @Ted DuPuis ? :)

I'm not sure whether anyone who was raised in Manhattan (New York, not Kansas) could ever truly hold the title of redneck. But I'm giving it my damnedest.

Hey, anyone got some old semis or busses I can park on my property? :D

I drove a friends new Corvette the other day. It made me feel like I was 55 again....
Did you turn off the electronic stability control and hoon it?

There’s a dude who’s got well over twenty dead cars of various varieties nearby. Probably more than that.

I had heard about him through Nextdoor and people asking if the Sheriff was ever going to do anything.

I knew about the guy with thirty or so Chevy Astro vans he clearly bought at auction some long long time ago and had those all parked on his property in neat dead little rows. But I hadn’t found the random vehicle guy until lately.

And they’re really random. It’s a total junkyard except nobody is pulling parts and none of them are missing body panels.

Sheriff issued tickets of course and the county sent warnings that they can only have something like five, and neither one cared. But Astro van guy died, I think. Something about that on Nextdoor asking what would happen now... his kids auctioned them all off I suppose. Don’t know.

The fine is so low the other vehicle hoarder doesn’t seem to care. County said it would escalate over time unless he sold five a quarter or something? What do you bet there’s no clause in there that you can’t buy any more while selling? Hahahaha.

I’ll see if I can get a photo that shows it all.

Then there’s “Nissan Pathfinder Guy” a very strange choice for a redneck. He likes old Pathfinders so he has three or so. I suspect only one is running but he literally parks it nose to nose with one of the dead ones. I assume that makes parts transfer for weekend projects easier if he works outside. Hahaha. Jack one up, grab part, jack the other one up, replace part... and it is parked right there on Friday night when he gets home. One is parked further down the hill behind the house. Maybe he’s sucked all the useful parts off of that one already.

The other much cooler trend all of a sudden out here is multiple people have found running and NICE original Ford Broncos. Both the smaller 60s ones and the huge 80s ones. And these things are cherry. It’s like they started growing on trees out here. Out of the five houses around me, two have them now, and they’re all over the neighborhood. So weird.

Like Zeldman, I spent some time racing before I turned into the current old man version of me.

A few years ago a friend showed up at my office with his new Z06 Corvette. "C'mon, I'll let you drive it". We left the parking lot, a half mile later I was at a red light, in the right turn lane that led to a four lane freeway access road. I asked him "How dooya turn off the traction control?" He obligingly showed me the button. The light turned green.

About halfway through the turn, I floored it, got the ass end hanging out nicely, and laid down tire smoke for a few hundred feet before feathering the throttle into a hookup and quick trip to 100 MPH.

I slowed down as we entered the freeway, looked over at my friend, and was rewarded with his look of abject terror. :D

I have a better question for the OP about Corvettes. Why are 99%+ driven alone? I NEVER see anyone in the passenger seat. They might as well not put that passenger seat in there. Now that I've told you this, you will start noticing, and you will see why a Corvette is the loneliest car there is.
