Who else has a plane down for repairs?

I'm down trying to finish the annual on the Twin Beech. Hoping my mag comes back from Covington in time for Thanksgiving.

One of our club planes is down for a bird strike to the leading edge, not affecting me right now but is affecting a student who was scheduled for his check ride.

It's not really down, but until I get my backup AI fixed, I won't be flying it much.

My engine handgrenaded in flight in September. The FAA still hasn't released the airframe to me. I'm waiting to hear on the cause of the engine (They sent it to Continental for tear down). Continental did say they'd credit me half the core charge on the engine.

I remember your post about the off-airport landing, Ron. Could have been much worse, but I applaud your airmanship. I could have ended up in a similar situation, had my engine passed the leak down test at annual. We sent two of the cylinders to Harrison for evaluation. Both had cracks at the exhaust valve ports. It would have been only a matter of time before one of the cylinders failed. I hope Continental does right by you.

Going on a month and a half from the toolbox chuckin' palooza. Still grounded.

Protip: Don't procure parts from Brasil. The port workers and customs people apparently start hacking away at each other over labor disputes and nothing leaves the Country. As of last week my spar was still sitting iced at the port...in Brasil side!

So my A&P got on the Piper backorder 90-day line and eat the fact I'm gonna be down for the count, so might as well have a Snickers. He did got an email saying there's a chance I could see procurement as early as end of month, which would be way quicker and a Godsend. That could put me back in the air in time for the Houston Xmas shuffle. Otherwise, I'm eating 3 12-hour roundtrip drives over the Xmas and end-of-year holidays. I've already mentally prepped the wife for it. We're starting the holiday travel misery early this year.

As to the hangar situation. The Arrow is going out to the ramp until I procure single occupancy hangar. No effing way I do community hangar again. FBO has no rental airplanes I could push for in order to be made whole over the holiday travel so I'm right SOL out here in the surface of Mars.

Hang in there OP, we're all feeling the pinch one way or another.

Same too, down for annual. :(
And with Thanksgiving getting in the way, I won't be flying next week either. Looks like a 3-week annual. Dangit.

I personally have two airplanes that need an annual, and have another one in the midst of an annual that needs an engine overhaul. Thankfully there are other things to fly.

I am finished flying for this year due to the dislocated ribs and nerve injury in my left shoulder....and maybe a couple months into next year.

Really, really wished I had used a ladder....

Annual signed off Nov.1st with no problems, but waiting for static/transponder checks. My mistake - I forgot that they were due, and my avionics guy is booked solid with ADS-B installs.

Went in for annual on July 30, goal of coming out Aug 1.

Came out of annual, but had 3 low cylinder compressions. Ordered new cylinders and flew it while waiting for delivery of cylinders in September.

Decided to replace all 6 cylinders. When pulled cylinders in Sept, found corrosion on the crank.

Sent the crank off for machine work, the case off for some work....

Then decided to get an engine analyzer....

The motor is put back together and installed. The EI analyzer was not ordered correctly, so waiting for upgrades / components from EI.

Should arrive today, hopefully installed next week.

Test flight in likely 7 days, or so...

Out of curiosity, how low were your comps?

Don't have the logbooks in front of me.....

I think 3 of them were in the 40-50 range, trending down. I flew another 20 hours while waiting for the replacement cylinders to be delivered.

We were planning on replacing 3 cylinders, another 1 had been replaced another 2 years ago. That would have had 4/6 replaced in 24 months. When mechanic started looking thru the logs to the overhaul, it was unclear that the cylinders were replaced at overhaul.

So, decision was made to "replace them all"..... which then became a decision to overhaul the engine..... which then became a decision to add an expensive engine monitor....

Really? They can't fit you in for a simple static and xpdr check? That sucks.

Down for the annual, and to repair a charging system issue that reared its ugly head right before I turned it over for the annual.

Century 1 autopilot is out for a rebuild. It doubles as turn coordinator so no IFR flying until its back.
Constant oil leak probs with continental rocker covers on the IO-360. Getting some new covers and seals right now.

Repairing an engine cylinder that burns oil, a constant-speed prop that leaks oil, and changing what's left of the oil.

Also, a few minor squawks that don't involve oil.

You didn't happen to find love in my ex wife did you? Sure sounds like it.

Annual on the 52 Tri-Pacer, been OOS for awhile.

My NAVION is sitting in a radio shop. Both radios quit so I decided I'd get the all encompassing upgrade; GPS with ADSB, transponder, audio controller, backup radio, circuit breakers, wiring. The panel is a functional part of the airframe which adds an interesting dimension. Maybe I'll get something done before the next annual, due in january.

Just picked mine back up today after leaving it a 3 hr drive away a couple weeks ago when the mags started acting up.

Picked mine up Monday after a phase 2,3 and D inspection. Loaded the boys to fly to the beach, everything normal except the gear won't retract! Return to the field and after a couple hour delay, everything's good and still made it down in time for dinner!

If you are going to have a gear problem, that's the one to have..!!!

Agreed. Had a gear problem on the way to the beach, pumped it down, landed, enjoyed the weekend.
On the way back, flew with the gear down and locked to ensure I would be able to land at home.
