One Short
Line Up and Wait
July 18-22 is the Short Wing Piper Convention in Vancover, Washington. I’m going. I’m taking kind of a mega-vacation and have about 10 days to get there from Michigan and 10 days to get home. On July 8, I’m headed to Delphi IN. Then the next day , to Dodge City KS. That will take me pretty close to Diane’s place (Hint, hint). After that everything becomes weather dependent. I’d like to go to Leadville, CO, then head south and around to Farmington NM and the four corners area, over to Page, AZ and maybe catch some of the Grand Canyon. From there, up the Colorado river to the Green River and a strip called Mineral Canyon UT. Then over the Bonneville salt flats and probably to Jackpot NV. Next, up towards Pocatello ID, back across the Craters of the Moon, then up into the hills at Hailey. I’d like to get to Johnson creek and probably Big Creek ID (a fellow from this area owns the lodge there). Then up Hell’s canyon and over towards Coulee Dam then down to the Columbia river to Vancover WA .
On the way back I kind of plan on roughly taking the Oregon trail backwards, and stopping off at Oshkosh for a few days.
I would appreciate any suggestions on “must see” places, “must eat at” places , “must land at” places, and any thing else that sounds fun. Also CHEAP is good.
I’ve got a 160 hp Tripacer with wingtips and vortex generators, One person and gear. My plane likes grass and gravel, it doesn’t have an opinion on gopher holes but doesn’t much like woodchuck holes. The plane and I are IFR rated but this is a Sight seeing trip so the plan is VFR all the way.
Again, any and all suggestions are appreciated and if anyone out that way has time for a cup of coffee or a coke let me know.
