Haven't updated in a while.
Dino has been great. He got to meet dad once, the morning he passed away. Dad joked that he was his "grand dog, but don't you dare call me grandpa". Good memory.
He's been gaining weight since we got him. Giardia from the pound all cleared up and he was finally processing all of that food he was taking in. Last weigh in, 73 lbs. He's a big boy.
The nutty schedule, driving between two houses, and what not right after that fateful day, and some separation anxiety problems, including chewing up some inappropriate things... had the Vet and I concerned that we needed to break that cycle, so he's on a low dose of anti-anxiety meds, with the intent to wean him off of them in two months time.
He starts obedience training and will get a chance to be heavily socialized with other dogs the first week of April, since things are finally settling down with Dad's Estate paperwork. (Tax info is finally all into the accountant... Yay. Now to do mine... Boo...)
Somewhere in the middle of all this, he somehow scratched one of his nipples. Yep, my dog has a nipple injury. You can all laugh now. That was a little over a week ago, so he's had four Vet visits in less than two months.
Antibiotics after a smear confirmed he had a dog-only infection and he's already mostly healed up, but Doc was concerned about him licking it (more jokes here, my dog is a pervert) and she thought his anxiety would really shoot sky high with the "cone of shame", so since he's enormous, she recommended a regular old t-shirt. So my dog has been wearing my gun club and aviation t-shirts around the house. Even funnier, he likes having one on, and will run up and sit at your feet any time you pick a t-shirt out of the drawer now, waiting for you to put it over his head. Haha.
I really don't want to be "that guy" who dresses his damn dog up, but the doofus loves having one on, and is noticibly calmer and happier (lower anxiety) when he does. So he may get a t-shirt collection. Fit now he has the Gun Club, an OV-1 reunion, and an Oshkosh shirt... Haha. What a fashion statement.
Anyway, he's doing great and we are looking forward to obedience training with one of the oldest dog training companies in Colorado (family has been training dogs since the late 1950's here continuously through multiple generations).
Here's some photos of the dude. Just for fun and updates. We are really glad to have another dog, another very active dog too, and how we ended up going bigger... we don't know. Haha. He's a horse.
Yawning at the humans one morning at dad's old place... We are still deciding if we want to become "country" folk and move out there. It's about 45 minutes out of Denver Metro on good weather days and we did some commuting during the recent bad weather and it wasn't that bad.
Waiting for Karen to come back in the room one evening... It bothers him when we aren't in the same room still, and if that door was open he'd go back and forth incessantly between us. Vet mentioned that he may have been a single person owner dog when a pup and he's not sure what to do when the "pack" isn't all in the same place.
Hanging out in dad's office watching me work.
Under dad's huge model train layout he was working on.
The monster cage crate... Big enough to hold pay per view cage death matches in on the side.
The view from the corner of the property of the country house on one of our morning walks/patrols out there after a snow. He really likes it out there, and would like it better with a fence. He heard his first rooster and cocked his head sideways and stared at the neighbor's barn for a solid 30 seconds wondering what the heck THAT was... Haha...
