Voting Made Hard...

A 'little' inconvenience?

I'm sorry, but there is no excuse for the experience he described. It is crap like that that makes people leave the polls honestly wondering if their vote was actually recorded/tallied.

Agree.

At one Arlington County (a blue county) polling place they ran out - completely - of Republican ballots. So prospective R voters had to wait for more to be delivered. That also should never happen - the poll workers should note that they're running short early enough to order more before they run out.

The election in Virginia set records for participation.

Oh, and a business partner of mine went to (what has always been) his regular polling station - his house backs up to the property line of the polling place. He was told that he couldn't vote there, instead they moved his polling place to another location a mile or two away. That shouldn't happen either.

Actually, paper is much easier to hack into. Give me a pencil and a very small amount of social engineering, and I could hack paper fairly easily. It is much harder to hack into a computer system.

Once you have the paper in your hands, sure. But if it was locked in an unknown file cabinet with only one person holding the key, locked in an unknown room locked in a building guarded 24/7, would it be easier to retrieve that or just break someone's password? I mean I don't know, I've never done it either way. All I know is, hackers are really good at what they do.

Here they have the registration roles on the computer. So if you are on that, you can vote. But we have a caucus. Sometimes they are a ruckus. Never know whats going to happn at a caucus. Sometimes they are "packed" with all the cousins and inlaws. In some ways they are democracy at its finest, Disorganized mess!

I was one of two in the whole place... In and out 6 min.

Lady got all ****y with me though on the way out cuz I didn't want her stupid "I voted sticker." I'm not 4 and I don't need a sticker to make me feel better.

Uh....well, she tried to stick it on me without saying a thing and I said I don't want one. She got p Issy with me and gave the next lady TWO stickers and said, "here, have his. He doesn't want it" loud enough for the whole staff to hear.

If I don't want a ****ing sticker, don't want it. Don't try and ram rod some stupid ass 3m knock off product on my shirt. I DONT want it lady.

Kinda like the cashier at McD's or the local convenience store who doesn't realize they're running out of quarters before their "quarter bin" is completely empty?

Why would you expect anything more at the typical polling place where the average volunteer is 80 and battling dimensia?

Exactly, and they say spelling is the first thing to go. ;-)

We're still paper here in Louisiana, with the superannuated verifiers. But it's a one-minute walk down the street from home, we always get to vote, and it's fast. :)

My parents said back in the day if you asked for a Democratic ballot you'd get handed a Republican ballot or just plain run out of the polling location.

I understand that other people aren't as lucky as us to vote freely. I just think its unacceptable the amount of issues that I had to go through that could have been easily fixed or avoided. It shows incompetence on how the county/state handles something that is very important in our country.

I nearly had that experience here in Texas, when I asked the blue haired old ladies where the Libertarian Party table was. They were flabbergasted. lol

I persisted. After all, there was a GOP table and a Democrat table. But, alas, no Libertarians. Why?

Of course, they had no idea.

Too bad the Libertarians are black-balled from the primary process by the collusion of both major parties. I have no idea how that will ever change, but change it must.

Oh, well. I dutifully got in the GOP line (that was 20 times longer than the almost unknown Democrats) and voted for Trump just to eff with the system.

I avoid voting and jury duty. I did, in the past and on rare occasion, do both. But gave 'em up.

It's relaxing exercisng my right not to vote, and having been long ago gerrymandered out of political relevance (I live in MD, where voting districts resemble ink blots designed by the demented), it's semi-soothing to disengage. Basically, other than Governor races, my vote doesn't count - MD is a winner take all for electoral college ballots, for example.

My dad said they gave him a dirty look when he asked for a D ballot. I didn't notice any looks towards me but I bet that was because I was the youngest there by several decades. I bet they were happy just to see a young person voting, even if they were voting "wrongly".

I had a Kenobi 2012--Our Only Hope bumper sticker on my truck. I got a lot of positive comments on it. It's the only one I've had on my cars in a long time other than my braille one that says "IF YOU CAN READ THIS YOU ARE TOO DAMN CLOSE."

In Washington, ballots arrive in the mail and either mailed back or drop it off at a number of locations. Very convenient. And, because most people have completed their ballots before 'election day', we don't have to endure the last-minute surge of political ads.

Truth! It's very convenient. And one of the drop off points is convenient for us, so I never waste a stamp sending it in.

There were nearly twice as many R ballots cast as D ballots in AR. So how much of that was Democrats trying to help pick an opponent that they believe Hillary can beat?

I find it amusing that we are getting record turnouts from a party who feels that it is in their best interest to discourage people from voting.

What you're seeing is the end result of what I used to call the "Jerry Springer" effect. Trump, and to a lesser extent, all the rest of the presidential hopefuls have subscribed, hole-heartedly, to the assumption that any press is good press and bad press is best.

The ugly tone of this presidential election is a parody of The Real Housewives of New York. And Trump is the queen bee.

I'm so disgusted that I have decided to tune out. When I vote in November, it will be NONE OF THE ABOVE. And I will be writing all of my elected officials.

We can discuss the voting process but it is getting too political when we descend into partisan bickering.

So now we know Trump is hung apparently....:D

I call BS on that...with the way the Chinese have nearly free reign to access to most of our data...you'll be asking how the hell did Li Keqiang get elected?;)

I find it amusing that people perceive identifying oneself as "discouraging".

Pulls in the Viagra demographic.

Oh no, now we'll see him doing Viagra commercials! "Ladies and gentlemen, the President of the USA , on how to keep an erection'....I can see it now. :D

If that's all it was, I'd not have a problem. Of the 87 co-sponsors of the NVRA bill, there was exactly ONE Republican. Only 5 Republicans voted for the bill, 36 against.

Tits on a bull?

Why not just stay home? Write ins are effing worthless. If that's your protest, you'd have nor satisfaction ****ing into the wind.

My vote has not counted since I've started voting, and the results haven't even been close. It's not a cop out when it's fact. Plus when NONE of the candidates share my views, there's no point.

Maybe you should consider relocating and surrounding yourself with like minded people.......

For me, move planning from MD is in progress, actually; and they don't have to be like minded; some diversity would be great, too. You know, in place of the intolerance for diversity of opinion so common in one-party states.

****ing in the wind would infer I would get **** on me (e.g.: a literal form of "blow-back" from a bad choice). Since there are no good choices here, I propose that writing in "none of the above" is just simply zero-sum gain at worst. And, it makes ME feel better. You vote your conscience, I'll vote mine.

Problem is, in this day and age, all of them suck. It's not about voting for who you want, it's about voting against the lesser of two evils. Figure out who you hate the most, then vote for their competition.

I wish Trey Gowdy was running. I'd follow that guy into combat any day.

What is a republican ballot? You seriously get a ballot with only 1 party represented?

You can only vote in one party's primary. Here in Virginia they either hand you a Republican Ballot or a Democrat Ballot if you are where the paper ballots are used. If you are were they use voting machines, the machines are programmed for either the republican ballots or the democrat ballots. In some states, the parties don't even hold their primaries on the same day.

In the Arkansas primary election, you can only vote for Republican or the Democratic candidates to select who gets to run in the general election. This is not without problems. For local offices, sometimes one party has no candidates and the other party may have multiple candidates. For example, if the Democrats have multiple candidates for sheriff and the Republicans have none, you have to vote in the Democratic primary to have any say in who is going to be sheriff and are then precluded from voting in the Republican primary for president. Another issue is that if one party does not have a meaningful primary contest for an office (dominate candidate for president), voters may feel free to crossover vote to screw with the other party's choice of candidate for that office.

That is the strategy I have pursued in the past. Sadly, it is no longer applicable. Trump, Cruz, Clinton, Sanders are all equally unacceptable! This is one presidential election where I truly feel like I've already been left out. My one hope is that the winner of this hog-calling contest is somehow transformed by the process.
