I'm gonna take a wait and see approach. As a currently dissatisfied iphone user (due to ATT's service), I am hopeful a few million ATT users move to VZ. If that occurs as suspected, ATT service may actually be useful at that time.
Yup. I'm thinking this can't help but improve AT&T's network too - A win-win for everyone!
it will be a good day to own some verizon stock when i phone comes
I was thinking about selling AT&T short if I had a really good idea of when this was gonna happen, but the rumor mill has been so loud about the Verizon iPhone for so long (almost since the original came out) that I didn't want to risk it on this announcement, especially because I expected this to be coming from Apple, not Verizon. Hm.
However, it looks like since the announcement of the "event" last week, AT&T has only lost about $2/share, or about 7%.
So, were you looking for functionality or convenience? If you want convenience, let god Jobs tell you what you can buy, when you can buy it, what network you can use it on, and what apps you can have. You want functionality, get an Android.
Really? Try upgrading to the latest edition of Android the day Google releases it.
Also, unless I can get ForeFlight and other apps on Android, it's not more functional for what *I* need and want. The iOS App Store is still by far the largest and the developers can spend their time adding features to their apps rather than spend it ensuring that their stuff works with 3 gajillion different combinations of OS, screen size, etc...
So, you can have fun with your Android and feel all smug that your system is somehow more "open" or functional - I'm gonna use my iPhone to actually do stuff.
The iPhone, though, is definitely out. I need a world-capable phone.
What makes you think the iPhone isn't a world-capable phone? The hardware is the same worldwide with the possible exception of China, where they had to remove WiFi originally (not sure if they did that via hardware or software). That's part of why the AT&T deal worked well for Apple, since the rest of the world uses GSM for the most part.
Sigh....
In the ultimate irony, after defending the VZW network vehemently, it turns out I do not get service at my new house.
Even though the coverage map shows me in the middle of a very dense digital area. Wonder how hard its going to be to get out of my contract for this one...
Yikes - That sucks.
I think at least one carrier will, in that case, let you have one of their home mini-cell devices for free - Might want to call and check. Verizon, unless they've botched things badly since I was a customer, does have the best customer service of the bunch - Hopefully they'll find a way to make it work for you.
