UPS rant

That just SCREAMS "We don't want to be bothered doing a service for our customers that doesn't show up in our bonus metrics, so we'll scramble for any excuse that shifts the blame to someone else, no matter how implausible."

The jurat is self-proving -- that's specifically why it was invented.
And yet notaries do get called to testify in court, and are expected to carry professional insurance. And offering that service to the public in this day and age? You couldn't pay me enough. And I'll bet bank customers would ***** if you charged them $5 for it.

I think it’s more about litigation concerning fraudulent signing of a will or testator capacity. And the plaintiff looking for deep pockets, so they try to argue some liability on the part of the bank for the action of their employee (the notary).

I used to be a notary to do company documents. The law limited charges for notary services to $1. Not going to get rich at that.

The Fed-Ex and UPS drivers downtown here are very professional and run regular routes during normal business hours. I usually have stuff sent here (plus it is out of the rain, not left on the porch, etc).

I use the USPS mail for very little these days and have even started changing notice provisions in contracts to provide for hand delivery or overnight delivery only (or email notice, but not USPS). Though certified, return receipt requested may be a little better. It took over 28 days for a certified letter to get from across the street to me (and it was a legal notice of a confessed judgment required to be mailed by statute). We have also had checks stolen in the mail (seems tot be a nearby sorting facility). And then there is this:

My postman, Warren Schiff, watching the game in his den . . ..

Some folk say he resembles Richard Dryfuss.

SS cards have never been a form of ID. Banks and most of the financial world is run by idiots who rely on the customers to be even dumber.

it's a good chance that several people have your exact same SSN as it's based on your location of issue.
