I think you can say two? Was just going through my old PM's the other day, I'm at the limit and had to decide which ones to delete. Went back to the beginning, when I joined. Found a bunch of encouraging ones, from you, just when I needed it the most.

I am too. I think I'm one of the people who told you to at least take a break from lessons. But that's generally my reaction when people say they don't want to continue. I'm not the type to beat myself up over stuff that's supposed to be fun but it worked for you so more power to you!
 
I had alot of people to tell me to give up but I decided I wanted it.

That was my initial intent Matt but there is a posting that I shouldn't have offered my mentoring so I withdraw it. Good luck in your training. If you ever think it's not right remember why you started doing it in the first place.

It took me a few years of posting on aviation message boards, but I eventually figured out that as long as I don't break a forum's rules of conduct, the only person who has the right to control what I post is me.
 
True Richard. I decided to try and close the posts and walk away from PoA. (I can hear the cheers already) and actually go flying and do stuff instead of sit in front of the internet all summer.

Actually you have more than enough aviation experience to help others. Those of us who have followed your progress know that.

If the "Captain" wants to know your history, the forum software has made it trivial to find all the posts you've ever made here and all the responses you've gotten to them. His query doesn't need any detailed reply other than a direction to review the forum record if the issue concerns him that much.

The last time I made a statement like that, I was in 8th grade, and I said it to a teacher of mine. As one might imagine, I was put in my place, as I should have been.

I'm not sure why Captain is getting chastised for politely questioning an adult making a very arrogant statement such as this.

Someone basically claiming they had made more mistakes than anyone else is a sign of arrogance? You have an inverted sense of the meaning of arrogance, assuming you understand its meaning at all.

Arrogance is defined as an attitude of superiority, manifested in overbearing manner, such as calling another adult a child and making authoritative assertions. And claiming "politeness" at the same time as belittling another. What ironic juxtaposition!

The totality of her initial post was one of reaching out to other students to supply needed empathy from one who had already received a lot of criticism for not being a good enough student from some people on this forum. It takes a lot of deliberate disregard of intent to turn that on its head with the intent to beat up the poster.

I think I am getting really annoyed with people like yourself and the self-proclaimed "Captain" who cannot let any mild and irrelevant (as in "it doesn't affect the intent or goal of the posting one bloody iota") sentence go unchallenged and refuse to "lose" any invented on-line battle, no matter the consequence.

Please take your defense of the "Captain's" inane and ultimately irrelevant complaint to a place where the sun don't bloody shine.

She tried to in post 12. She tried to explain to you that it was based on a feeling, not an objective survey of all pilot experiences. You missed that, for reasons that I do not understand.

Are you looking for some sort of formally worded apology and/or retraction? If so, why? Now I'm curious what your motivation is for dogging this subject.

Saying one has "been through more than others in their pilot career" - yes, that's quite an arrogant statement. It wasn't an admission of more mistakes than other people. That would be humility.

In case it was unclear: this was me being funny. If I failed, well, I guess you can complain to the same bureau you complain to about everything else.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts and encouraging other soon to be pilots. It is kind of sad that with all the experience that exists on a forum like this, the discourse can get to be so useless. Interestingly enough, the most personal attacks and useless sniping seem to come from the individuals with the least to contribute. Sadly that means that many just ease away and decide contributing is not worth it. I come primarily to learn, occasionally for entertainment, and very rarely attempt to contribute. But after two years I am still under 200 posts for a reason. Wayne probably has the best solution and I think I am going to follow in his footsteps. Blocking those who most frequently get personal and least frequently make meaningful contributions will make this much more pleasant.

Well said. Captain's been on the board less than two months, has over 1000 posts, and I haven't seen one that was positive yet. Did Sara fail all of her checkrides since 3/12 when Captain joined? I doubt it (though I may be wrong), yet he seems to have a bone to pick with her because she failed. Who appointed him judge and jury? What kind of board administration lets a bully join and run others off within a couple months of his joining?

Someone on the other thread said that if they were new, and came to that thread, they'd back right out. That's about where I find myself. I'm new, and have a really bad taste in my mouth, just from these two threads. Yeah, he told me to stop the guilt trip. Whoop tee doo. If bullying is the norm, and that's how I see it from my perspective - at least with him and one or two others - then wow. Just wow. She made a hyperbolic statement, IMO, and he decided that he needed to make an example of her. Really??? Who in the world does he think he is???

Arrogance is when a high time pilot tries to take a newbie down a peg or two because he thinks she isn't humble enough.

Just my opinion.

I have seen him write positive posts. I don't think the board administration could have predicted how this would turn out.
 
Got my cert 11-27-11... Long time reader.. Learned a lot on this board.. Continue to read it daily.. That being said.. Some a holes really need to get a life.. You take a woman who is obviously proud of her accomplishment..,and merely made a statement.. Its amazing how some of you carry on enough until she up and leaves..
Go beat up on someone at he loca tavern if you feel the need to (oh wait! They might fight back!)

With all due respect to you Ted, WE didnt all agree. And from looking back at the thread it looks like that opinion is in the minority.

I must have missed something because the only attitude on her part that I picked up in this thread was:

It took me a long time and a ton of cr@p to get my PPL but I persevered and got it and I encourage others to do the same.

The people who shared my opinion are mostly the folks who've talked with her more. Sara was a frequent participant in chat. I won't go into details because I don't feel that what's discussed in chat should be discussed openly, but she demonstrated numerous hazardous attitudes. Even without chat, I believe that she publicly stated hazardous attitudes. If you disagree, then I'd invite you to read through some more of the threads she started. If you still disagree, than I am happy to disagree with you.

As is often the case (especially in internet gossip forums), some people have more information than others. Since we are mostly all nice people (I don't make that claim personally) who want to see GA continue and be safe (I do make that claim), the standard response is to congratulate people and be encouraging. However, that is not always the appropriate response that is in the best interest of the person involved and the activity as a whole. Again, if you disagree, then I am happy to disagree with you and leave it at that.

With all due respect, I would expect many are biting their tongues as to not add to any further negativity. Me included.

I am not going to get into further discussions of any individual, however, aviation is very unforgiving, and keep in mind some of us have seen the results.
