This is why we shouldn't have truck demonstrations at airshows

Never understood why they did that at airshows either. Every year OSH has the jet truck there. To me it is like the blow up screen to watch movies, or the "Theater in the woods". I just don't get it.

I go to OSH to see airplanes, not monster trucks or watch movies.

Maybe they should quit having planes there too. Just too dangerous.

Guess it doesn't matter that this was in Mexico? :dunno:

During the night while is demo pass (where they dump lots of fuel into the exhaust to make the bright flames) was pretty cool (and since it was a chilly night, warmed up us in the crowd), the actual high speed pass with the truck was just about INVISIBLE because the jet exhaust isn't all that bright when it's running at power and the truck wasn't otherwise illuminated enough to be interesting.

It's not about danger, it is about the appropriate venue. I realize many on this board would be happy with a sewing & knitting demonstration also, but st OSH the venue is all about airplanes. Not jet trucks. ;)

If people didn't want to see it, they'd stop having them at airshows.

Hate jet trucks. Had one at the air show yesterday. As soon as he fired up, everyone started crowding the showline to get a look. They're popular down here in the south.

Then what was the point of this thread? I didn't just read an article about how unpopular trucks were at air shows.

You could quit going to OSH if it's not your cup of tea, vote with your wallet.

Air shows are about entertainment. They'd have dancing midgets if they thought the crowd would go for it.

I sorta runied it when they had the jet truck at Wuakegan last yearf.

I said, "They plane will fly over the truck. The truck will win."

Everyone turned and looked at me.

Then, "Notice how the P-51 is so nose up? It's in slow flight."

Rosebud is....

If you can't run over some women and children now and then, what's the purpose of building a monster truck?

The jet truck isn't there because people that already like airplanes want to see it. It's there to attract folks who otherwise wouldn't go to OSH-- because if we can get 'em through the gate, we can inundate them with airplane stuff. And some of them will find they like it enough to get more involved.

OSH is a gathering of planeophiles-- the jet truck is our puppy.

Yea, but when you put the jet truck and the airplane together..it can be pretty darn entertaining.

Aerobatic pilots like John Klatt, Tim Weber and others practice these routines with the truck drivers all the time. And when talking to spectators after the show...one of the things they will always mention is the "drag race" between the jet truck and the airplane.

Note John's low pass at the 1:40 mark :yikes:

It's fast...it's exciting...and it's loud. They're pros and do it safe and exciting. Show biz, folks...these guys know that they are there to entertain the crowd.

I detest monster trucks, Robosaurus and all the other non-aviation acts at airshows. Antique military vehicles statics, yeah, if they're not right in the middle of the ramp. Otherwise, keep it 100% planes and helicopters.

I understand the concept of butts in seats. I don't like it, though.

As a person who goes to airshows to see airplanes I say display ANYTHING that ups attendance. Aviation needs hearts and minds right now and if someone doesn't support closing the local airport because that's where they get to see a jet truck each year then I'm fine with that.

BTW, I just watched that jet truck last weekend. Both my boys thought it was pretty cool. Im pretty sure they liked Patty Wagstaff more though....thank god. Too bad sequestration canceled the Blue Angels...they would have LOVED that. F'ing government... Don't get me started.
