I recieved an inquiry from an attorney who sent me a four (Ino, actually, five) page parsed argument as to why he had NOTHING after having lived through a post COVID PE. I wrote back outlining what was going to be requried, but declining to engage. He responded with personal attacks.

Now what hubris is this? Am I really going to get involded with a guy who has determined to the best of his legal ability that he shouild be permitted to continue without FAA passing judgement? It is one thing for me to gather all the times and get the opinions needed, and then tell him he is or is not qualified, but he's already decided.

That's a lose-lose.
Then More personal attacks...."Oh really?"

Finally blocked his email. The whole correspondence is over 10 pages.
Don't be doing that. There are all types.

This is the sign of the times. The belief (especially with lawyers and politicians) is that you can make your point, no matter how factually wrong it is, by saying it loud enough.

Not everyone is willing to put up w/poor attitudes for only $$’s. Gives a bit glimpse both ways. Integrity isn’t a cheap trait.

Living through a PE is quite an accomplishment!
Acting like a horse's butt isn't any way to celebrate that victory.

You did the right thing, Dr. Bruce. Life is too short to put up with people like that.
I once had a book given to me entitled "How to Deal with People Who Make Your Life Miserable." Periodically, when someone was in my office, I'd pull it out and start reading it until the noticed.

I’m sure that’s what it is. Damn. The guy is lucky to be alive. And he wastes his second chance at life like this?

Sounds like he missed the opportunity at a first life too.

Doc B was most gracious to even outline the process, rather than outline a middle finger from the get-go.

could be worse....another doctor. :D

What's a post covid PE?

Pulmonary embolism, a frequent complication of moderate and severe covid.

For the purpose of airman certification it matters whether this is considered 'provoked' (similar to a PE after let's say joint surgery) or whether it's considered spontaneous.

I'm pretty sure that this behavior dates back significantly further than modern times. Proverbs 29:9 was written before any of us on PoA were born, and would lead me to believe that these sorts of people existed back then.

At least now, you can block eMail addresses.

The newfound sense of entitlement in society makes me more of a hermit every day

PE = Pink Elephant. Drugs were involved, it just complicates the medical even more.

Dr Bruce, if this encounter is what frustrated you enough to rant then I’m jealous of your patient panel. Spend a week in my office and you’d retire!:D

Honestly, I didn’t understand the post.

Guy (lawyer?) emailed Dr Chien trying to lawyer his way into a medical, trying to argue medicine that he doesn't understand like points of law. Then follows up with personal attacks when he is told the truth.

This isn't how it works.

That and,

I’m guessing the guy’s other AME had already told him x,y and z would be required because the FAA wants to be sure the PE was caused by only covid and was a one time event, and that there are no other underlying conditions making it likely he’ll have another. Hence the guy is sure he has NOTHING. But didn’t like being told he had to prove it to the FAA, so went to Dr. Bruce thinking Dr. Bruce would somehow magically get him back in the air immediately.

Maybe he’s a lawyer and flies himself around for work or whatever and is super ****ed his life is derailed after already having been derailed by being very sick for a while. He has one of those personalities that always gets his way, rules don’t apply to him, and if told “no” finds a way to get around it, but there is no way around this, which causes personalities like that to have a complete meltdown and do stuff like attack the messenger.

On top of having to prove himself to the FAA, when he wanted Bruce to jump, Bruce declined to say,“How high?” which he’s accustomed to in his life, being an alpha male having surrounded himself with obedient minions.

Or maybe he’s a nice guy just having a really bad day. I’d put money on the former though, and feel sorry for his wife, although she knew what she was marrying so actually I don’t.
