This was supposed to be a straight in approach.

But it has nothing to do with 8hrs bottle to throttle.

It's definitely the GFC 500...

yeah, definitely GFC 500

One of the times I was working on my IR, I Was flying a ILS approach in a bit of cross wind. As I crossed the approach course for the 3rd or 4th time (never got full deflection, just kept over correcting a bit) the CFI said "S-turns for spacing?". Sarcastic son of a gun. But a few months later, I flew as his safety pilot while he got current and he pulled the same wandering ILS (not as bad as mine to be fair) and I couldn't resist. "S-turns for spacing, eh?"

Kinda airplane related in a travel kind of way. Is there such a thing as a name brand in checkable hard side luggage these days, or is that not a thing anymore? I need to travel and pack a weeks worth of stuff, and my carry on bag isn't going to work for that.

My vote is Briggs & Riley, decades of satisfaction with them. Have an old Tumi bag also but Redditors say the quality has gone down. Bought sets of Away luggage for all my grandchildren for graduation gifts. They seem to like it.

What is the Best Hard Shell Luggage?

- Away

- Travel Pro

- Briggs & Riley

- Pelican

- Delsey

- Rimowa

Friday - check check tracking on my tailwheel parts. Says they were supposedly delivered - go to the porch - nothing.
The wife says "I already got everything. Were you expecting something?"
"Yes, airplane parts."
"This box? I thought it was some doll house stuff I ordered..."

Of course, there was a design change and the old style part was not available. So, c a r e f u l l y lay out the location for a 10-24 socket head cap screw in the tailwheel fork. Carefully. Drill, tap, check, whew. It worked.

Today, put it back on the airplane, but I only had one 1/16 cotter pin (needed 2). Close up the hangar, drive to the hardware store. Get some cotter pins. No prob, eh?

Hit the button to open the bifold hangar door, it gets about half way up and...

BANG!!!!

One of the two cables broke.

Closing the door, it got bound up so I had to "help" it a bit.

Installed the one cotter pin I had been missing and that was the end of airplane time...

I guess it was a good thing the airplane was inside the hangar when the cable broke.

I have now 19,000 unread e mails in my old Yahoo mail.

Summer is coming soon and I am thinking of a new bathing suit.

At what age does a speedo become a speedon't.??

1). I think if you’re at the age of “I’m retired, and I don’t care”.

And/ or…..

2) Whatever lights up your wife. Just remember to add the fake French accent.

In any event, PLEASE - If you have any compassion for humanity - do NOT post any pictures.

any age where you look like the pillsbury doughboy

any age where you can't see your feet

any age where you have less hair on the top of your head then growing out of your ears.

there are more... but I think you get the drift...

Since wife and I decided to retire in place (we're not moving), need to do some long term exterior work on house. Nothing out of ordinary, but sizable amount of work, spending a sizable amount. Will set the house up for us for years to come. After having 6-8 different people/companies look at the projects for the last year, we'll probably go with the two that actually bothered to give an estimate and would do the work.

Want to make A LOT of money in the service industry? SHOW UP!!!!! YOU'LL GET THE WORK (if you really want it)

I have a handful of projects going on at the house that require a contractor. Either I don’t have time to learn a skill or I don’t have time to learn where to buy parts. No contractor has been quick to get here or to get the work done. But the leader in disappointment is the HVAC guy. After months of promises from one, I got another who showed up. The task: replace the noisy blower in one of the furnaces so our house doesn’t sound like an A320 whenever the thermostat calls for heat or cooling. He came out, unwired my dual fuel heat pumps and split bedroom zones because he doesn’t like such things (easy for me to fix), replaced the induction blower because he thought it was the noisier one (wrong), and said he would come back on request to replace the main blower. I sent that request on January 12. Of 2024. With a follow up in April. Each of those got a “didn’t forget about you, will get there soon” type of message. Since the problem is that we are annoyed by hearing the fan, I’ve decided that the easier, quicker, and cheaper fix will be to follow Metallica on tour and sit in the front row without hearing protection for the next couple of years.

Next person you take up in the plane, see if you can convince them that your engine has been converted to run on chicken poo. Best time to tell them this would be right before takeoff.

My daughter in law got a quote because the heater was not working well, cycling off and on. The first HVAC company quoted $48K to replace the entire system. I looked at the quote and laughed. The next company fixed the gas’s valve, cleaned the blower and furnace. System works great. Cost about $300.

My oldest (16) did a "job shadow" for school today at the CMI Tracon. She spent all day watching the controllers work ground, tower, and approach. She loved it, and is seriously considering it as a career.

I managed to get away from work long enough to make a hop over to DNV for gas. She got a kick out of hearing me on the other side of the mic and watching my plane from the tower.

ETA: I was also pleased to hear her report that the controllers recognized my voice and were complimentary of my radio work and ability to follow directions... both of which can be in short supply with a flight school on the field.

That’s awesome on many levels. Nicely done!

Did she give you a number to call?

Here is something not worthy of its own thread.

Friend got his private pilot lic 3 months ago after 2 year training. I ask if he could fly me from a class G to another class G airport. No airspaces to deal with. He says he cant because the last time he did a cross country flight was months ago. Does not feel comfortable. This makes me feel like I am an amazing and superior pilot. :p

Sounds like a good mentorship opportunity. Has he flown at all in the last 3 months?

Most never start. A lot give up. A few make it to solo, and then give up. Of those that are left, a lot get bored of boring holes in the sky and drift away. Post checkride is tough because you're learning fast, but also forgetting fast. The key is to fly enough that the former outweighs the latter or you lose it in a hurry.

At least he realizes that proficiency matters.
