Student pilot landing at OSH during show? Allowed?

You're not very likely to impress anybody at Oshkosh with your plane, when you have 1/3 of the flying fleet there as competition.

There must be a reason why pilots with a lot more expensive and capable planes land at FondDuLac and Appleton. Like: They have nothing to prove, and no one to impress, and they'd like to leave sometime during the week.

Until this post I thought it was a hypothetical question and everyone was just giving you a hard time.

Why do you want to rush your training just to be ready in time for OSH? You can still get there, with a friend or an instructor, or you can fly into a nearby field like ATW or FLD. Tbh, I'm not sure why people are so keen on flying directly into OSH. I have over 1000 hours and I've never flown into that zoo. I have no particular interest in doing so, either. Too many average pilots interested in showing off their great skills by many accounts, not to mention idiots who can't follow instructions.

I've flown into OSH twice during the show. Actually only once, the other time was the SloshKosh so we landed at ATW.

In my case BTDT and I have no interest in doing it again. Other than a motorcycle, I've traveled to OSH in a variety of conveyances.

I agree it's almost an obligation for GA pilots to fly into OSH during the show. And if you are committed to doing this go practice

1. Spot landings.
2. Spot landings.
3. Watching out for 10 other aircraft surrounding you, hopefully at the same altitude and speed.
4. Doing everything EXACTLY as ATC tells you.
5. Repeat #1-4 over and over and over.
6. Have an "out" if something goes wrong.
7. Be prepared for the worst.
8. And what are you going to do if it's IMC?

And please, do NOT announce as you turn final.

By the way, regardless of the many times I traveled to OSH, I didn't fly in myself until a few years after I got the cert, mostly due to weather.
 
Having gone in VFR, the IFR departure was a bit of a leap of faith. I suspect I was sharing that cloud with a lot of other aircraft! (Legally, but still)
 
I've visited the Fisk control trailer on the ground during Air Venture a couple of times. The controllers there are real friendly and let you observe the best clown show you'll ever see.

If every pilot read the NOTAM, and if every pilot who read the NOTAM in fact followed it, then landing at OSH would be a piece of cake.

Sadly, it looked from FISK like about 1 pilot in four was clueless. Pilots show up totally lost begging for someone to help them find the airport.

Pilots blabber over the radio when they are supposed to be silent.

Pilot's can't maintain the correct airspeeds.

Near airshow time pilots will type in direct KOSH and firewall their Bonanzas to get in before the airport closes.

It's just amazing that the body count isn't higher than it is.
 
I had 9000 hours the first time I did the FISK arrival, and (never having flown actual combat) I think the only time I was more worried about other airplanes and following procedures correctly was on a Red Flag mission with 100 other planes buzzing around, half of whom were trying to simulate killing me (not to mention all the SAM/AAA sites) while I was trying to put bombs on targets I'd never seen before and stay out of "the box" and avoid the nuclear test site. :hairraise:
 
Spot landings aren't that important This is not a contest. The point of the spots is to get you to touch down further down the runway so that a following aircraft can land behind you rather than to see if you can hit the circle.

I agree with Jim above (I've been to Fisk before I ever flew in). It's amazing despite all the info in the NOTAM and the fact you're not five miles away from the runway, people can't find 36 when brought in on a straight base leg or 9/27 when put on an intersecting course for it.
 
Dear god people. First he is here to wind everyone up with his unfair treatment during his checkride that he also recorded etc. That time it took like 40 pages to understand he is a troll and he got all the enjoyment out of that one. Now he is here to fly to OSH as a student pilot, same attitude, similar written output etc. Lets keep this one under ten please, some trolls are too obvious dobbelgängers.

You know, that really isn't a good analogy. A freshly minted Private Pilot should not have a HUGE issue flying into Air Venture for the first time if he does his due diligence.

You are only 50% of the equation as far as getting into porn.
The producers would need to see if he was good looking too before making that decision.
