So long, Red Board (a bit of a rant)

Speaking of Trader Joe's snacks - anyone else tried the Wasabi coated dried peas? They're fantastic!
I saw them at the checkout counter last week and thought about buying them. Next time I will! I like the Wasabi mustard.

We're going to get this thread closed if we don't at least mention the red board!

If we closed threads for off-the-wall thread creep, half the threads in Hangar Talk would have been shut down! ;)

Concur, great snack!

Almost sounds like we need a food forum....mmmm, food

"Sick as a dog" is being closed for morphing to the topic of food. Or is it?

That thread was essentially a dead thread before a spammer got to it. Hangar Talk tends to be a 'free for all' type forum while we try to keep things on topic in the other forums. Those two reasons are why Chuck closed it (which I agree with).

OK. I guess I missed the spammer. Thanks Brian.

1) Bob, I understand your point

2) Bruce: You have got to be joking ( I know your not)! People actually sent you hate e-mail for answering a medical question based on the FAA's position. Geez I guess Kill the Messenger isn't a dead concept.

3)Speaking of Mental Health I must say that this thread its suffering from multiple personality disorder. Hmmm Red Board / Blue Board and Boiled peanuts.

4) IMHO the one word that best sums up the red board is "webboard" the one word that sums up POA is " Community"

A food topic was started and we should move over to that for continued discusion. As one of the hijackers, I apoligize if we got too far form the original topic.

What Brian said. Which I agree with. :) :)

Also the further we get from discussing other aviation forums the better, so thread creep away. My opinion has always been that its very important for major organizations to have an Aviation forum. Any commentary on how well any of our sibling aviation forums are run is something we would rather not have discussed here, generally speaking.

I think Frank may have hit on our next big thread.

Salty boiled peanut vs cajun boiled peanuts.

I am a cajun fan myself and cook 'em up a couple of times a year. Since moving up into yankee land I either have to fly south or make them myself. Hardly anyone in the north knows what they are and if I describe them they make a face.

So should we hijack this thread or start on on peanuts?

Scott

I'm bi-peanut, cajun are great when you want a little pizzazz and salted are great when you want to, well, eat like a pig and drink waaaay too much beer. (One can of boiled nuts = 1 six pack, or thereabouts)

Edamame is great, similar but different and really tasty. 1# of Edamame = 2 Sapparos OR 1 carafe of hot sake.

Texas style smoked pecans are also a great nut for beer-nacking (beer snacking, food you eat as an excuse to drink more beer!). About a # of smoked nuts = a six pack.

Wings are a great beer-nack, but I dare anyone in the area to join me at Wendell's Pub in Norton, MA and do a bowl of Double Suicides with me. I can do a pound of Suicides no problem, but Double Suicides are where I sweat. I can do it, but it's not comfortable.

They have Harpoon by the pitcher, too. This is a not a fly-in sort of eatery!

Fly into 1B9, I'll meet you there, it's only a 10 minute drive...

Cheers,

-Andrew

Andrew,

What are Double Suicides? And do you provide a designated pilot for the return flight?

Having said what I did, Adam, I don't regard AOPA as an organization and what the red board has become as the same thing at all. I still support the organization and contribute to the PAC. Only AOPA and EAA are looking out for us!

Ain't that the truth ! They've both done and continue to do so much for pilots that alot of pilots don't even know about.

There's another one? ;)

Seriously, I haven't been to the red board in months and months, and that was only once after several weeks. POA rocks!

We can probably drum one up :)

Wings at Wendell's come in a spectrum of flavors: Sissy, Suicide Sissy, Sassy, Extra Sassy, 3.5, Extra Spicy, Suicide, and (off the menu, not advertised, have to have eaten there before) Double Suicide.

Sissy is just garlic and butter tossed wings. Each level adds a bit of something, but the jump is exponential above 3.5.

Extra Spicy's and Suicides are par for the course; generally I'll do one order of Extra's and an order of Suicides and be happy. We got one order of Double's last time, and I had 3 wings and called it a night. I can finish one, but that is all I'm eating. The heat is extreme, as is the flavor. (It's like getting hit in the face with a 100# weight by a garlic clove, then vinegar, then the spicy)

Cheers,

-Andrew

Somehow locking a now harmless thread that was about to die out has made this place feel less like the "back porch" to me.
Actually, I should have closed it right after the spammer came in. I didn't consider it, though, because I tend not to check the forum.

We try to avoid too much thread creep, especially way off topic like that one went. It's not fair to the original poster nor anyone who looks back on the thread for reference. And it's not like there aren't plenty of other places to post.

That said, if a thread does take a wild direction but you want to have it in a new thread, PM one of us. We can split the thread off and start a new one.

There's a wing place in Tallahassee (I don't remember the name) whose hottest version comes with a warning label which states "Caution: avoid contact with skin" and then lists the first aid treatment for chemical burns.

Frozen edamame, I meant. They have those at Trader Joe's. As far as boiling a peanut, I guess with enough salt 'snot too bad.

Wow! I can't imagine from who. If there is anyone, on either board, who has had a more positive influence and helped more people, I can't think of who it is. Thanks Bruce, for ALL of your contributions to these forums. :):)

Designated pilot?? My guess is a designated airplane might be in order.:rofl:

 Bruce, that is just really seriously messed up. In many years have yet to see you post anything to justify receiving abusive hate mail. They may not like the answers you give but that's not your fault, sheesh.

from the various ?pilots? or pilot wannabees over there who were complaining that I was prohibiting pilots who were taking antidepressives from flying.

Dem's da FAA rules, not yours. You just work within the system.
You call it like it is which IMNSHO is one of the best things anyone can do to try to solve problems even if the receiving party doesn't like the answers. They sure won't solve any problems by sticking their heads in the sand regardless of how bad they don't like the answers they get.

Keep up the good work. I for one highly approve of your methods and unselfish assistance to others...

Well, what about ME??? I mean, every time I post I help people feel better about themselves as they sit there, shaking their heads slowly and thinking, "no matter what, at least I'm not as dumb as THIS guy!!"

Hey, that's a valuable service!! Of course, I'm just lately coming over to this board so y'all haven't had the full, um, "blessing" of my sense of humor (!?!) and thought processes (:hairraise: ).

Darlin', raw peanuts are impossible to find up here in New England. However, canned can be found.

Although, I bet I could mail order raw peanuts... hmm.

I'm with you. Nasty, nasty things.

If the idea is simply to make you thirsty for more brew, I will take one of two routes, flying on a hot day (bonus points for acro) or buffalo chicken wings.

Yeah, but I can drink the beer while I'm eating the peanuts! :D

Well, in that case, the Diamond wins hands down. Much nicer to fly.

Better safety record, cheaper insurance, better glass cockpit, better view (gotta love that canopy), only 4-place I know of that actually has a back door... *drool* I can't wait to get one.

*More* brew? You drink, and then do acro to make you want to drink more? :hairraise: :vomit:

I don't know why you all need these excuses to drink more... Though I suppose, if it's beer, well, that is some vile stuff. Almost as bad as black coffee. Y'all eat those peanuts, I'll be over in the corner drinkin' margaritas and pretending not to be eating tortilla chips and salsa. After all, I wouldn't want anyone to think I needed an excuse to drink... :cheerswine:

BTW, speaking of 'ritas, I had a bit of free time the other night so I went to downtown SFO. Got off BART at Embarcadero, walked all the way to Fisherman's Wharf, and ate at a great place called Lou's. Live jazz, heavenly clam chowder with the sourdough bread bowl, an excellent meal, a couple of 'ritas, and awesome service. Rode the cable cars back to the Powell St. BART station and back out to Oakland. Man, my job just sucks sometimes. :D
