Taxi to Parking
Weather is looking less than ideal at this point.
Hmmm, maybe I'll get one last chance to give the KNS 80 in N3327M a workout.
Tony, are there any VOR/DME RNAV approaches down near you?

not that I know of. of course ive never flown or taught in anything with an operational VOR/DME RNAV so ive never paid much attention. Ames does have a VOR/DME, but not RNAV. Shouldn't Joe's fancypantsy IAP finder sort for that or something?
hehehe.. I might get to file IFR from Boone to Ames for the event. (For those that don't know, Boone is about 10 miles west of Ames.) Could this be the shortest (successful) IFR flight ever? hmmm...
While we're on the subject. Jesse and Tri will be here either way. Who else is planning on coming regardless if we have forecast flyable weather on Saturday? Chris, Kent, Kate? who else?
ug. even i am becoming depressed by the forecasts Saturday is looking rainy. USAirnet is forecasting ceilings between 500 and 1000. A tad low to be doing glider rides. Sunday is actually looking OK. So....lets get theoretical.
IF Saturday is no good for flying, would you attendees rather:
A) Hope for good ride weather on Sunday or
B) Fall back, regroup, and shoot for April 21st weekend
of course. If you folks wanna come out even if there won't be any gliding this weekend, feel free. Im sure Chris will try to blow up a cannister of Propane either way and maybe some meat will get stuck in the flames.
oh and btw, selecting the 21st has a couple of cool side effects. for one thing, there is a hangar dance in Boone that night. I know Leah and I plan on cutting a rug, Im sure Chris will as well once Rachel sees this. Plus it puts us smack dab in the middle of VEISHA weekend at Ames. for those of you who don't know, VEISHA is Iowa States annual festival. It only breaks out in drunken riots about once every 10 years, last one was 2 yrs ago and no one got killed, i dont think.
I'm showin up either way tony, someones gotta keep you guys company!
You better be there or else it is Tony and Jesse locked up together for the weekend. There could be a terrible case of amour-recidivism for those two.
i dont know what amour-recidivism means but it doesnt sound good

Well, things are set up well for me this weekend. Airplane, backup airplane, copilot, Garmin 396... So barring a major change in the forecast temps or a line of storms with no holes, we'll be flying in Friday and out Sunday, lookin' forward to a weekend of... Whatever!
If we get a glider ride in, cool. Extra ride, cooler. If the ceilings are too low, I'll happily pile some of the VFR folks into the plane to get a taste of actual. We'll watch movies, eat flame-broiled dead animals, tell (f)lying stories, eat Tony's cookies (which is what we're really going for anyway ), and have a grand old time.
April 21st might be a bit more difficult. I probably can't get a full 3-day weekend that weekend (friend visiting previous weekend). I might take vacation but if I do it'll be to go to Sun 'n' Fun. If everyone else goes, I will try but it won't be as easy or as long.
I just got 2.2 of actual with an instructor and am now legal to fly the friendly clouds again. Oh, that's right; I should probably get a current approach book for IA. Looks like I might need it! Arriving Friday, out Sunday.
Well, the XM was current, but the GPS expired 3/15. I just put in a request to have it updated. Thanks for the reminder! Now, to monitor the weather this evening! I'd hate to have to cancel at this point, but obviously will if need be.Excellent Grant! Now just be sure the XM subscription is paid up on the DA40XL.
Okay, call us "overly prudent", but we've opted to forgo the trip. Sorry! We'll see you all at Gaston's. (And this is after I got instrument current and had them update the GPS. Ah well. ) We'll miss the cameraderie!
