Phillips multigrade mineral

Before you go much further - check with Conti.

Lycoming's guidance on break-in for Turbo engines is to use AD oil, not mineral oil.

Wanna double check before an err is made?

Here's the link to the Lycoming (yes, I know NOT Conti) discussion:

All Lycoming turbocharged engines must be broken in with ashless dispersant oil only

For both new and repaired cylinders, our A&P always has us use Aeroshell 100 mineral oil for the first 30-50 hours. We normally use Phillips 20-50W AD.

I've used the Phillips 20w50 M in a number of engines I've broken in. It works fine for that task.

As far as I know, unlike Lycoming Continental calls for mineral oil during the break in of turbo engines. It would be wise to double check though as I work primarily on Lycomings.

Has anyone used this for break-in?
(overhauler says "any good mineral oil will work")
TSIO-550, it's going to be in the 60's F during break-in.
Nickel cylinders (ie not new/steel)

I just broke in an IO-470 with the 20W-50M with good success. Mineral oil was used to about 24 hours, then switched to X/C. New SA cylinder assemblies all around; burn now about 1/20 hours.

Also broke in 12 new SA cylinders on a pair of TIO-520s using regular 20W-50 X/C with the same result.

In both cases the aircraft were flown 50 hours quickly (less than six weeks) and at 75% or so for the first 20 hours. YMMV.
