I have one of the last ones that takes batteries. I won't buy another rechargeable, the batteries are crap and not interchangeable.
 
Love mine...used to also have a standard AA battery unit that I kept in my travel toiletries bag and was devisatated when I lost it and found out they no longer make that model...only rechargeable.

My rechargeable has been going strong for years now.

Make sure you change out the head every few months at least. Costco usually carries them.

We bought a 2-pack at Costco. They were both dead within a year.
 
Yup, mega dittos.

And the Philips OneBlade kind of rocked my world on the shaving side.

Hi.
Do you have any cavities / fillings? I understand that it may cause some issues for some, but I never used it and never trust anything rechargeable that I cannot have an external backup for. They always seem to fail at the worst time.

Uhhh, if it "fails" mid use, you still have a toothbrush...just doesn't go "bzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz"...but neither did any of mine growing up so I think that those teeth brushing principals still work.

It's not like Foreflight where you would need to declare an Emergency if the iPad battery fails.

That’s how it went when mine finally crapped out after three years. Had to use it like a regular toothbrush until the replacement was delivered. It reminded me of Mitch Hedberg’s joke about escalators.

I do have fillings and it's not been a problem.

I did have all the old ones removed and replaced with modern materials.
 
Been using the Sonicare for years. In my case, failures aren't battery related. What normally fails for me is the seal/gasket between the handle and the shaft that inserts into the brush head. That fails and then water and goo get inside the motor housing. But I can get 2+ years out of them easily. 365*2*2 is almost 1500 uses.

My original rechargable Phillips lasted 10+ years. Just replaced it.
 
We’ve been using Sonicares for years. Had to replace one, but mine is still going strong after I done know how many years. Several. I can charge it and leave town for a week or more and it’s fine. I like it.
 
Close to 3 years on mine and it is still going strong.
 
I've been using electric tooth brushes for about 15 years. I've had 2 Sonicare brushes. Both lasted several years. When my 2nd one got to the point that I wanted to replace it, I decided to look for a better design. I think I've found it.

The Colgate Hum is a little more compact, is easier to keep clean, and I think works just a little better.

My new Sonicare (new as of Christmas) is slightly smaller (both the body and the head) than my prior one.
 
I found one on sale a few years back and decided to give it a shot. I used to get cavities just about every other dentist visit and haven't had one since getting this thing so I guess they work.
 
My Sonicare has worked well for a number of years. I also use a waterpic water flosser. It's good for finding those small leftovers after dinner ... :D
 
By the way, I was turned onto the Sonicare by my dentist, who claims they're the only worthwhile electric toothbrushes.

That might explain a problem I am having and going to go to my dentist about soon. I have had a few fillings and crowns many many years ago, but I have been having excellent checkups for the past two decades. I got a sonicare a few months ago and loved it, but now I have a couple of fillings on top that are becoming very cold sensitive and a crown on the bottom that has suddenly become pressure sensitive when I chew. Coincidence? I don't know.

Sonicare, for years.
Dentist suggestion.
Pretty much has put my hygienist out of business, she doesn’t have much to do when I get in her chair.

I doubt it. I’ve been told by dentists that old fillings and crowns can just age out. Then there is gum recession with age that causes cold sensitivity. A crown that is pressure sensitive could be the nerve beginning to die, you might have a root canal in the future. Or maybe your teeth shifted a bit and your bite needs to be adjusted. Or possibly a crack has developed or decay, under the crown. All of this is just more wonderful fun things to experience as you get older.

If the Sonicare is to blame, I’m guessing it would only be because it is doing a better job of keeping plaque off the exposed dentin and the plaque buildup is a barrier to cold and touch. I’m not a dentist though so I might not know what I’m talking about.
 
I had been using a Sonicare for a while when I started going to my current dentist. After looking at my mouth the first time, he asked me if I used a Sonicare because my teeth looked so good.
 
Going on 8 or 9 years w/ my Sonicare. I do not leave it on the charger; I wait till the light starts blinking or it conks out while brushing, then charge for a day or two; once a month or so. Change the brush every time someone in the house gets strep. Probably not using the right metric there.
 
My Sonicare stays on the charger. It’s maybe 6 years old and still works fine. But that says nothing about something you buy today. I don’t expect consistent quality from anything made on the other side of the planet where it’s more difficult to monitor the manufacturing process. It’s hit and miss. Still too many misses. The one I have still works, but it’s the second one I bought. The first one lasted a couple years before it crapped out.

Every 3 months for me, or when the bristles start to flare out. Get the heads from Ebay or AMZN by the box. Thing is great. Tightened up some receding gum problems I was starting. I've had it ten years maybe? The send "beep" has gotten a little weak, but otherwise works fine. Lives on the charger.
 
When the color in the bristles in the middle starts to fade, that's when it's time to replace the brush. That's why the color is there.
 
Well if y'all have stock in Philips, then your plan has worked - I ordered the FlexCare 2-pack from AMZN. Guess I'll be rattling my old fillings loose soon.

My little battery guy has soldiered on for years. Not looking forward to the day when it gives up the ghost.
