Pet Peeves

Mail. I'm tired of it.

I get a quadruple dose, due to A) My stuff. B) My Mom's estate stuff. C) My Grandfather' estate stuff. And D) My Cousin's estate stuff, which came along with a lot of bills he (and the estate) don't have the ability to pay. Letters to creditors saying "The estate is bankrupt and cannot pay you, so please cease and desist" don't slow the blizzard 'o crap. Oh, and I get some of his mentally unsound Mom's stuff too.

It is a tidal wave of stuff that arrives every day. Worse is that I have to keep and file much of it until all 3 estates are finished...

Athletes,
Is it just me or are the professional sports inundated with morons in America? Every other word is "like" "no I sayin" fur eel". If you are going to pay these clowns abtuse amounts of money then they should make them take an English comprehension class before they can speak into a microphone. When the mic is in their face I cannot turn away or hit the mute. Like trying to drive by a car crash without looking. "You feel me" " teamwork" " possession" "noisayin"

Along the same lines as this. Athletes and actors who think we care who they endorse for president. Nobody cares who you endorse. You are our monkeys. You entertain us. Stop thinking you're important.

I agree. I think it's just people trying to be cute/humorous (using a joke that has gotten REALLY old by now).

Now if they could just come up with something for pulling the chute on a Cirrus. That one knew dirt when it was a rock.

It's not the athletes' fault. Its the mindless "fans" who think that paying $300 for a seat in the nosebleed section, $10 for a plastic cup of beer and $7 for a hotdog is a good deal. I like to watch a good game - on TV at home. I have guys that come to work on Mondays and Tuesdays and talk about football non-stop for an hour or so. It goes something like this: "Did you see that game?" "Yes." "Did you see that play where (insert event here)? That's when I interject and say, "If he saw the game then let's assume he saw that play!"

On the other hand, they have as much right to speak out about various issues as we all do. The only difference is that they have a bigger audience. And why is that? We, collectively, put them up on that pedestal.

Sure they do, on their own time, not on OUR time while we are trying to watch the game. The NFL is finding this out the hard way right now and for some reason cannot connect the dots as to why their ratings are down 24%.
That is why I have become a fan of European football. No commercials, no dimwits speaking out of their behinds and NO COMMERCIALS!!! game starts and I get 45+ minutes of non stop play then a ten minute break and 45+ more minutes of interruption free sports. another added bonus is that you see more punches thrown than hockey now days, more hits that the NFL and none of that "instant replay, coaches challenge, two minute warning BS. It is a win all around for me. Two hours and the game is done and I can get back to playing barbies with my daughters or watching winnie the pooh for the seven hundredth time. Life is good.

I see that as being up to the NFL and the team owners. But they are treading a fine line between the folks who support the protest and those that don't.

Nothing wrong with that. I don't watch sports at all.

I feel for ya. I only had one to deal with at a time and the piles of scam artists saying they'd "get a legal copy of titles" and what not for me for the low low prices of $75-$150 for something you pay $3 for a photocopy of at the county seat, and the lawyer already did it anyway, were entertaining.

Stop it. I can easily burn four hours a week and get paid for it (!) if someone will play along and talk football!

Which is of course why we started not one but two fantasy leagues at the office. :)

Even worse is actors who run for president! :D
You talkin to me?

True dat. At least until November 8, it's still a free country.
Don't like it? Ignore it, or don't watch. We have remotes that allow us to change the channel without leaving the couch!!

I'm one of the few people who couldn't care less about professional sports. Not because I begrudge players enormous salaries, just because it's never been my thing. Ball players are simply entertainers, and I really don't care if the Kardashians or Miley or Angelina or Kaepernik are paid millions, because it doesn't affect me at all. They found a way to make whatever they do work for them, so good for them. But deep down I know that it's all a continuation of the dumbing down of the population.

I really don't care when a celebrity can't form a sentence. It's when the kid in line next to me at Wal-Mart, who wants to be like the celebrity, can't form a sentence that it hits a nerve.

I was almost going to write a separate rant thread about it, but a developing peeve is this:

"Free" breakfast that comes with the hotel room. No, it's not free, it's part of the price of the room. And you don't get a credit if you don't eat it. It's fairly standard here with most hotels.

There are three standard meals a day. I do not eat three meals a day. If I eat three meals a day I get fat and feel like crap. The one single meal that I can skip with no remorse, either physically or psychologically, is breakfast. I don't need it. The only time I ever eat breakfast is if I happen to be going on a marathon bike ride exceeding sixty miles.

It's hard to skip lunch. I'm often eating with co-workers or business partners. Even if I eat breakfast, I'm still starving at lunch time. And if I eat lunch, then I should skip dinner. Except dinner is the hardest one for me to skip of all.

Nutritionist types that claim breakfast is the most important meal of the day, just stop. JUST STOP! Shush! That may be true for 99% of the population (although I doubt it) but it damn sure doesn't work for me.

I can skip breakfast only if I stuff myself the night before. I would rather skip lunch. I can go all day if I fill up in the morning.

And yes, in Canada I asked the poor girl at the front desk if the room would be cheaper if I didn't eat breakfast, and she looked at me and just said it comes with the room, eh?

I always thought they went out of their way to ask about the food when you had a mouthful of it, that way you couldn't complain(if you have any manners)

Modern company telephonic (and internet chat) customer relations.

There are various parts of this type of communication which fail, but lately I have been torqued by what I call "The Goodbye". My gawd, they want to turn it into a dragged-out, deer-eyed, soppy, young-love-Goodbye, nowadays.

There is no need to torture customers by prolonging this. You told me what you could, and we are done. When I say thanks, or much appreciated, or 'that answers it', we can terminate the communication. We can each cheerfully say "Goodbye" and place the handset in the receiver/hit End, or whatever.
Oohh - but, nooo CSR-Trainers won't have none o' that!
You must 'offer other sources of information', you must mention our website, you must be sure to end on an upbeat note! You must ask customer if you provided excellent customer service! Be sure to ask, 'have I answered all your questions?'. Then to deliver the final blow, Ask. Customer. If. Willing. To. Complete. Customer. Satisfaction. Survey. !!!

STOP!! I was a decent 7/10 for happiness til you stole all those moments from me, then drove me nuts with your #&@! Goodbye! Now I am 3/10 and tanking fast! You better hope I don't do your survey!

When they start the final spiel after whatever I called about is handled, I alway say, something just came up, thank you... click. They have my number if there was something important hey forgot to tell me.

People who still cling to the Brett favre Packers.

 ALWAYS will too! And proud of it! :raspberry::raspberry::raspberry:

Actually, when I became a Packer fan in the early 60s it was all those greats of the Lombardi years, so those years are my favorite. Jimmy Taylor was my fav Packer until Favre came along. If you ever watched Favre play, he was always exciting, for the good or bad! Bart Starr lives about 20 minute away! Go Pack!

I grew up in Minnesota, so we watched the Vikings. The Vikings suck and always will. I amnot a fan of any NFL teams but if I were it would be the Packers just because of the ownership. The NFL will no longer allow a city to own a team so they will never get my dollars. My children are fans of the packers and I will allow that I guess, just not the crappy viqueens.

My dad was stationed in Duluth in the early 60s and that's where I became interested in football and the Packers. Seemed everyone there was a Packer fan, those that liked football anyway. I don't think the Vikings existed yet or I may have become a Viking. Ya outa run over to GB and take your kids on the stadium tour and the Packer's Hall of Fame there. Pretty cool for a town of 100,000 to have a publically owned NFL team.

My family did that when we were kids. I enjoyed it. However, I am a thousand miles from there at the moment and if i take the kids that way it will be for Oshkosh. Our boys have a great grandfather that lives in Oshkosh so hopefully this summer we can kill two birds with one stone.

I always think: Why you asking that, is it tainted?

I started really using a checking account at the beginning of the debit card revolution. I remember writing checks at the grocery store but I think I had only reordered checks once in my life. I know, I'm young.

Oooh another post in another thread gave me a new one to post here.

Hand out "awards" to everyone, profit! LOL.

Awards.... I was given the "Most Flights of the Year" award from a company, then they fired me a month later....:rofl::rofl:

I was given a letter of appreciation from my department when I was in the Navy many moons ago. The Department Head while shaking my hand and after the picture was taken said that I didn't deserve it. That stung.
