Passenger Currency Requirements

Stonestown? You are practically in my backyard. I grew up there (that was our mall). Sure if you are here every six weeks let me know when you are back again. Don't know if you feel comfortable flying with a beginner, but a meeting would be cool too. I only know of a few other POAers locally (that I've met in person)..... but if we post it early they will come out of the woodwork, all those other secret Bay Area POAers.
OK. Next time is most likely Oct 21-28. I would go for a ride if we found a mutually agreeable time. Do I get to close my eyes? :D

The FAA does not care who sits in what seat unless for some more complex (usually turbine) planes.
The FAA doesn't care about who sits in which seat in two-pilot airplanes either, at least not the ones that I've flown.

Agreed. But aren't there some that have some limitations in the TC or such? Maybe MUs? I'm not sure - just heard there was some fuzz about that a few years ago.

I've had two people ride with me now (one pilot, one not). You can ask them how I flew / if they liked it.

I would love to have you on a flight.

Your times include weekends - I work, so either we'd be stuck flying at night (which is fine with me), or we could fly on the weekend. PM me about your height and weight and if you're willing to go in the 152 and what you would like to do. The Bay Tour? Something else? If you are not able to help with the cost I can come up with a fun flight that is an hour or two, my treat. I just need to plan the flying budget. Also, weather can be iffy due to fog / marine layer but luckily my flight school is pretty good about cancellations due to weather - so we would pick 2-4 days / times and book them all, then see which one works when we check the weather that day.

Kimberly

PS - if you can't fit in the 152 or for other reasons would prefer the 172, I should be all checked out and ready to go by this weekend. Obviously, the 152 is cheaper for me to rent and I've done hundreds of landings in it. It has a spot in my heart and is my "favorite".

Weekends are actually better for me than weekdays as far as times I have available when I'm out here. I'll let you know how it's looking as it gets closer.

OK I will keep October 22 and 23 free (subject to change).

Are you willing to go in the 152? Or do you want the 172? They are both used heavily for training on weekends so we should book a time soon (no penalty for cancellations). How about I reserve a plane from 1pm - 4pm on each day? Just let me know which one. We can always change / cancel.

At this point either day is fine. What if we try for Saturday first? I'm OK with the 152. I'm 5'4" and 120 lbs including stuff so I'm sure we would fit.

And to think just two weeks ago you were afraid no one would want to fly with you. Now you have loads of volunteers!

Wow that will definitely fit in a 152. I will go ahead and book it for Saturday - you're right, they would probably get mad if I booked it for both Saturday and Sunday.

I was just going to say something . . . .

Log Book:

Checkride - August 28th (two people). Solo to bring the plane back but I had to do that, no choice there.

Trip to Michigan, POA Fly-In, 4 "flights" (all with people).

First flight, with a passenger, on Saturday. Fun but distracting.

Second flight, with a pilot / passenger, last night. Way more fun.

Next planned flight, Saturday, with instructor, getting the 172 check-out over with.

No "set" plans after that but am hoping weather will cooperate for:

A pilot possibly flying with me in September
A passenger who gave me 3 Saturdays in October that will work for him
A pilot possibly flying with me in October (Brian)
A pilot possibly flying with me in October (Everskyward)
My first passenger, who wants to go again
My second passenger / pilot, who I think wants to go again
One or two of the "rejection" possible first passengers now that they see I'm not killing anyone
A pilot who has a plane and works at the airport
A pilot I met in training
A pilot from the 99s
Another POA pilot

God, I think I could go on . . . so much for worries about no flights, no passengers!!!

Yeah, I was going to say that you definitely don't have to worry about Mari's stats in the 152, but she already posted them. :)

And I would be VERY hesitant to fly with any FBO that had any sort of an issue with people canceling due to Wx, or even delaying a return because of it. They don't want to lose planes, customers, or lawsuits. So it's no surprise that yours is "pretty good" about them.

I actually don't know Mari. What stats are you talking about? As a new pilot I will of course assume that almost any pilot who flies with me has more hours / ratings / certs / etc than I do.

I was referring to her vital stats (height/weight). And yes, Mari has more hours/ratings/certs than most on this board. She's one of those Professional Pilots. A good egg, too! :)

Wait, why would a professional pilot want to fly with me in a little 152? I am so not worthy....

Why not? I've flown with a number of other people here in their little planes. It was fun. Actually I'm into that "reliving the past" mode. Must be getting old.

That sounds interesting. Is it a non-towered airport? Very dumb question here, but would a towered airport let a pilot do anything like that? I assume they would want you to fly the pattern for each takeoff / landing combo.

Roswell does have an operating tower and did at that time as well(1990). I had clearance from the tower as they seemed to enjoy seeing what little planes could do. The airport had periods of little or no traffic in between floods of T38's from Reese AFB trying their hand at the very tough IFR overhead approach. There were occasional flights of heavies doing test flights as well but we had the airport to ourselves a lot.
If you're interested in trying such things have a chat with the tower crews. They are able to clear you for a lot of odd stuff and there is stuff they can't clear you for or acknowledge anyway. You never know if you don't ask. Helps a lot if one or more of the tower crew flys.

No, that's incorrect. The FAA does not care who sits in what seat unless for some more complex (usually turbine) planes. The FBO can't "hang out people to dry." Maybe their insurer could, but since I'm sure you've followed the FBO's rules about who is PIC and who sits in which seat, you're fine there.

never said this was an FAA procedure. Its one of those things we all learn as renters who are beholden to insurance companies when problems occur. If you want to be covered you do what the rental folks want and most of them state in their rental agreement that unless otherwise approved, the pilot will sit in the left seat. For those agreements that don't specifically state that most of us older guys still do it anyway. (til we get our own planes...) No need to worry whether the FAA cares....they make up the rules after the fact just like ATF and the rest of them alphabet soup bunch.

She's just another pilot...with the following:
Airline Transport Pilot - Airplane Multiengine Land
Commercial Pilot - Airplane Single Engine Land
Commercial Pilot - Rotorcraft-Helicopter
Flight Instructor - Airplane Single Engine Land
Flight Instructor - Airplane Multi Engine Land
Flight Instructor - Instrument Airplane
Flight Instructor - Rotorcraft Helicopter
Type Rating: Learjet
Type Rating: Citation Sovereign
Type Rating: Hawker Jet

Her certificates probably weigh more then she does...

Someone must have looked me up on the FAA database. :fingerwag:

But I think Kimberly can fly the 152 better than I can at this point, besides which I have no problem playing a multitude of roles, including being a (mostly) silent passenger. :D

Shoot, I'm just surprised that this thread has reached five pages in length w/o one person making a joke about the thread title implying that passengers must carry x amount of currency.

Kimberly Anne, I have to give you credit for bringing a level of enthusiasm to this collection of tired old pilots whose biggest effort most days was leaning sideways to break wind. The number of daily posts here has certainly increased since you came along.

There is no room to lean sideways in a Cessna 150.

There's no reason why a long list of qualifications should stop you from having fun riding with a friend!

That's right, cash only! We don't want to have a paper trail for the FAA to follow!

I'm not the one who brought it up! In fact I wouldn't have said anything about my ratings unless asked. Unfortunately it sometimes tends to scare people off or at least put a different expectation in other people's minds.

Yes. If my landings are not perfect I will beat myself up about it for months. But other than that we will have fun but only if you are not silent!

Yeah, I guess that would be me, but certainly not in a way that was intended to intimidate! Heck, I even called you a "good egg!" (I just hope you took that as the compliment it was intended to be). :)

Thanks but I cannot possibly take credit for any increase in POA's daily post numbers.

I do love flying more than anything however I thought all of you did - ! I am sure each and every one of you "old pilots" was once young and enthusiastic.

Wait... now I'm jealous. How does one get you to fly with them? I love flying with really experienced pilots, because no matter what happens, I still learn something new every time.

Don't make up stories about how you flew through a cloud and then recant them saying you exaggerated. :D

I only said I was "mostly" silent. :D

I agree. We will have a good time. :)
