There's always hope. I have been a Saints fan since wayyyyyy back, and they finally got it turned around. But for the Lions and the Browns to do so in the same year. Yeah, that's about the time I'll be headed to OSH.

Maybe if Cleveland stops wasting a 1st Round pick with a QB every year they might be able to do something. I'm actually sort of happy with their play the last few years. While they did have a losing record, a lot of the games they lost were only by a few points. Our defense is good, though.

I'll be there probably the Wednesday before the show until the bitter end (usually depart Monday morning). The Navion will be in it's normal place behind the hangar cafe and I'll be camping with the little volunteer Cabela enclave in the woods.

I'm planning on being there. Hoping to have the plane packed Friday night and depart Saturday morning, before the show starts on Monday.

Our "advance team" will be there on Saturday. We will arrive on Sunday, weather permitting, as a flight of three.
We are still trying to figure out an overnight stopping point Saturday night. We used to stop in Iowa City, and fly up from there, but our son and his new wife moved to MN so there's not much point in stopping in Iowa anymore.
We (our friends flying in from CA in an Arrow and a brand-new RV-6) are thinking of spending the night in Prairie du Chein, WI. It's got a great, very scenic airport (right at the confluence of the Wisconsin and Mississippi Rivers), and is roughly in-line for the FISK approach.
Anyone here from PDC? We are thinking of spending the night at the casino hotel, simply because they have a free shuttle to the airport.

Not from PDC, been there a few times. It is a nice airport, scenic area. I'd think it would be a good spot to spend the night. I've flown in just to go to Cabela's a few times.

Believe it or not, we used to fly to PDC (occasionally) just to watch the Packer games, which were (occasionally) blacked out of our Iowa City market.
It's an awesome airport. The bluffs overlooking the airport are incredible in the fall. (And we've camped on those bluffs, at Wyalusing State Park, and watched airplanes land at the airport!)

Bigfoot to Oshkosh Social Club. We used to all fly in to Bigfoot ( a grass strip about 50 miles south of Osh on the IL/WI border ) and gather there on Friday so we could fly in as a gaggle Saturday and park together. One of the group lives nearby and would host a party for the 30 or so people who came in. We would turn his house into a large dorm with people sleeping everywhere
I think we peaked at about 15 planes. Now with the new system of registering as a group and having a dedicated space we are not so confined and since we have people flying in from all around the country it works a bit better. I do miss our usual spot over in row 520. We would end up in just about the same row every year as we would be landing at 10:00 on Saturday +- 15 minutes.

Actually, a mutual friend who knew Margy's ex-husband thought that we ran off to Oshkosh to have our affairs. Unlike certain other forum members we weren't married at Oshkosh (though there was a crystal Navion topping our wedding cake), but we did commence our "official" Honeymoon from there.
Besides, I have to behave at Oshkosh, everybody knows Margy and it would get back to her in minutes.

Yeah, I was sitting under the Navion last year chaning the tire and sat up abruptly and took the flap hinge to my head. It was on the radio almost instantly (it was really only a scratch but Margy dragged me off to first aid anyhow). One of my friends went over to the metal working demonstration and english wheeled a metal skull cap insert to fit in my tilley hat to avoid future problems. I can't get away with anything ...

The rule has always been there. The EAA just doesn't get worked up over what goes on in individual campsites as long as you behave yourself. They even permit (with some grumbling from the neighbors) the wholesale party crowds such as Pirates Cove and the Metro Warbirds to operate (though at least the Metro crowd voluntarily locates themselves off by themselves at the south end.

Like Jay said before, one does not see Oshkosh in a "typical day". I am pretty sure the only people that go to Oshkosh for just a day are the people only interested in the airshow and not there to see the workshops or speakers.

Simple. If you can't buy it there, don't bring it. Food, drinks, stuff like that take up a lot of space and weight. Tent, chairs, soft side cooler goes on the plane. Pack your clothes in the cooler, trash bag for the dirties unless you go to the laundromat.

You need a tent, something in which to sleep, clothes and a chair. You don't even NEED the tent, sleeping stuff and chair, you can buy them at the Target near the airfield. If you can't fit that in your aircraft you should either look into lightweight camping gear or loose weight. I brought tent, sleeping bag, sleeping mat, chair, cooler, food, and beer in a C150 without going over gross.

When we knew we would be selling our load-hauling Piper Pathfinder, I bought a 16' covered trailer and sold spots on it to folks who, like me, attend OSH each year.
We keep it at a friends farm near Oshkosh for 51 weeks per year. Right before OSH, our advance team hauls it to the North 40, where we unload a week's worth of camping gear for 8 guys.
Thus, even though we now have an RV-8 with a relatively tiny cargo-carrying capacity, we camp with the proverbial kitchen sink. Everything from generators to bicycles, to coffee makers and microwave ovens!
It's a wonderful thing.
I have a storage locker near the field that I split with a bunch of the other volunteers. Whoever gets in first bums a truck from one of the locals and goes over and moves all the stuff to the field.

I'm hoping to get back in the game and fly up next year as well. I did my last trip in 2002 from Clover/Pearland Regional. Funny you mention STL... Thats where we chose to overnight, and push on in early the next morning.

Ship it all to your location. Use footlockers, duffels or cardboard boxes.
I packed three tents, three chairs, folding table, coleman lantern, coleman stove, air mattresses, cookware in three separate boxes. I think it cost me $75 or so to mail it all to myself on field back then. I do not know if USPS continues to operate the post office there or not during the show, I do know they do at many other major events on a temporary basis, such as the three week long RodeoHouston.
edit: Just looked on USPS site... to mail a 33 x 17 x 17 trunk/box with 50 lbs would be $52 each way from Houston to OSH and back.

In the plane we took clothes, pillows, tarps and stakes to make makeshift tent over wings if needed, and a small ice chest. I recommend a folding lightweight dolly too, if you have room, or mail that with the other stuff.
Three folks in an Arrow to OSH and camped in style.

Do you have any experience or know anyone that is a member of the flying club there at Pearland Regional? I am thinking about applying to join soon. My instructor is the only rental I know of down here and he charges $140/hr wet(or 120/hr wet if bought in 10 hour blocks) for his c172. And that club is only charging $101/hr wet for their c172 and about $75/hr for their c150 and c152.

I'm a former member. My friend is their chairman. It's a great outfit. Meetings are on second or third Tuesday of the month I believe.
They WILL check your references.

I havn't sat down to fill out the application yet. What kind of references are needed? Is there a requirment on experience or hours? I am a freshly minted Private Pilot, and I really don't want to list my CFI because he will probably get his feelings hurt that I am planning on using someone other than him to rent from.

They will like to talk to someone who has flown with you, if you have flight experience (dont want someone who will fly it like they stole it...). If you choose not to use your previous CFI thats your call. But, this is a business decision, and he's in the business. He should understand. You are looking for XC rental as well as possibly other instruction opportunities.
That being said, if your CFI wants to join the club he can instruct in club a/c. Its been known for a student/client to actually pay for their outside instructor's membership to facilitate this.
What they care about: honesty, integrity, pays your bills (you pay at the end of the month when billed, not as you fly), doesn't do stupid stuff like drink and drive, or show bad judgement (Hey! Watch This).. There is no minimum hour requirement to join. There are student pilots all the way to ATP rated types.. Different a/c may have different minimums (like the retract or high performance ones, or the tailwheel)..
Contact me via PM if you want further info on the club instead of continuing to thread-jack the airventure thread. I am looking to rejoin again after about 8 years off. I'm also in the beginning stages of wanting to buy a Tiger and possibly lease it back. I had a great time in the Tiger the club had years ago.

Hahahaha... we made sure the trailer has a blender, and as long as there's ice, tequila, limes, and margarita mix, and fuel for the generator to keep the blender going... you're all welcome to stop by for a cocktail... or three... as long as you're not driving anywhere after departing Scholler.
Light tent, inflatable mattress (I get the ones with the blower built in for an easy middle of the night top up), light rain gear, a few snacks, a couple of changes of clothes and I'm good to go. My entire camping supply kit weighs less than 50lbs, if I add cooking gear, add another 15lbs.

I used to have a 'YoYo Blender' that used a pull string on a flywheel, no electricity required.

After Dr. Steingar and China poisoned me at OSH 12, I swore off of tequila. lol
Which isn't to say I swore off of blender drinks. The root cause of that debacle was that when Grant ran out of ice, China simply switched to serving iceless margaritas. This resulted in a tequila-to-mixer ratio of one to one (cuz that's just the way China rolls), served in a big red solo cup. Combine with 10-hours on the flight line, dehydration, and a good bit of stupidity (or "enthusiasm", if you prefer) on our part, and you have a recipe for disaster. lol
And, really, the party was a blast. It was the epic, 30-hour hangover that followed that had me praying for death.
We have a blender and generator at our site, but we make sure the ice-to-booze ratio is kept high. More like a snow cone, with a hint of some kiddy-booze in it. In the heat at OSH, that works out way better!
BTW: this picture, taken at our very first HOPS Party, illustrates a similar situation. We made the mistake of serving mass quantities of booze to people who had been on the flight line all day. Worse yet, we provided no food to soak up said booze. End result: Girls dancing on wings, and epic hangovers. (Since then, we have always served food at the HOPS party!)

There are portable toilets stationed strategically throughout the campsites. In the airplane camping they are quite visible.
