O&P Study

Go join local EAA chapter - members have all this stuff hanging around. Offer to help. You'll learn to safety wire.

I didn't even think of that!

But if I don't have the money to join (money is a little tight) will they help for free?

Anyway, to practice the safety wiring I was going to buy some bolts and some wire and just practice at home....went down to Home Depot and they didn't have the bolts with the hole through the head, or safety wire, and so I'm gonna have to buy it online.

Auto parts store should have the safety wire (mechanics wire). You can drill holes yourself.

How can you be a mechanic with out tools?

Being a mechanic doesn't require owning a drill press :dunno:
I don't have the money for a drill press
Most companies have drill presses, so why should I buy one? If I get a job at an airline, are they gonna expect me to bring my own drill press?

You can't find a machine shop that will drill two holes in a piece of scrap?

doesn't seem to me that you want this too bad.

No I don't. Mind telling me what kind of places will drill the bolts for free.

Sure - your local EAA chapter. Various members have every type of tool/machine/whatever you need. And local dues are very cheap.

There ain't nothing in this world free, most machine shop, auto repair shops would do it for the good will of it.

You aren't going to GET an airline job if you don't get the skills to pass the test. This is homework. You have to take responsibility for this your self

A cheap drill press. From a pawn shop. I bet that, and some home depot hardware, is still cheaper than ordering AN/MS hardware out of a catalog and having them deliver it.

I drilled my own bolt heads for an auto conversion using a cheap press and some scrap aluminum bar as a jig.

Go to the airport and ask for a few old bolts (various types of head would be best if you can get 'em).
I think you'll find lots of help from your local A&P's once they know you are trying to join their ranks...

That has been my experience at least...
