I passed my PP written. I did a self study with Kings School. I understand I need to enroll in a flight school in order to have a sign off for a student certificate. I don't want to dive to into a flight school at the moment. I paid 65 to Aviator.nyc for the sign off via zoom, but I couldn't do a zoom on the internet. I have WhatsApp, WeChat and google. Is there any instructor out who can sign me off?

Why do you need a student certificate if you're not going to start flight school yet?
This. I don’t think someone would sign off on a student if they weren’t actively managing you. Also how are you planning on flying without being in a flight school or part 61?

Also mention where you live that you can only access certain overseas video chat systems.

As a CFI I smell so much fish here, my instructor certificate crawled out of my wallet and is hiding under the desk.

Zoom is restricted in Cuba, Iran, Ukraine, N. Korea and possibly other places…

Yeah something is off or isn’t translating.

I don't know what you mean by "sign off" but there is absolutely no reason to get a student pilot certificate if you're not going to flight school.

Ed, may I ask why? You don’t need to have it until you are close to solo. Once you begin training, your instructor or someone else at the flight school will take care of it. The process will only take a few minutes and you will have the certificate well in advance of its need.

OP is 100% a foreign student (despite the email address). WeChat accounts are only given to Chinese citizens since about 2020 (or earlier). I had one since 2014 but I can't use it anymore since, well, I ain't a Chinese citizen (my ex is).

Only 'student pilot certificate' I know about is the Class III medical (unless that's been changed).

OP you don't need anything until you solo. Then you need a Class III (since you are doing PPL).

Me thinks OP is just collecting aviation swag.

There's no reason to take the private pilot written either and start the checkride clock.

If you want to do something nefarious here or elsewhere, perhaps? I can’t come up with all the various devious ways. I may be wrong. Paranoia…
Given the lack of need and the likelihood of a CFI signing off that they have verified the identity of a random person from the Internet, I’m just as happy to chalk it up to newbie ignorance as opposed to bad intent.

You don’t need to have it until you solo. But many get it at the beginning of training.
I didn't remember or realize that a class 3 medical get's you a student pilot certificate.
I got my class 3 medical right after my first flight lesson.
I didn't get a green card from the FAA until I passed my check ride.
My medical was my student pilot certificate I guess?
I didn't need a sign off except from the AME to get my class 3 medical.
I didn't consider myself a student pilot until I soloed.
I didn't take my written test until about a month before my check ride.

A class 3 no longer gets you a student pilot certificate. I got a plastic student pilot card and it requires an IACRA application, which needed a CFI sign off to submit.

I took my written test pretty soon after I started training, a year and some change before I actually took my checkride, but I didn't get my student pilot card until right before I was ready to solo.

CFI has to fill out forms and this also goes to TSA I believe. Student information has to be verified. My son went through it.
Post 911 stuff.

It used to until April 1 2016. They were issued by AMEs at the same time as the first medical. Basically, two different certificates sharing one piece of paper - paper, not plastic. The back of the certificate was for solo endorsements. As part of the change, all solo endorsements were moved to the logbook, but with the paper one, there were certificate endorsements (aircraft make and model) and logbook endorsements (make and model and 90-day endorsement). There was also a separate paper certificate if the student was still a student pilot when the medical was renewed. The combo looked like this (the medical class was added when the AME issued it).

I believe some flight schools, especially the puppy mill variety, require a medical and student certificate before enrolling. At least that's how it was when I started (though that was a long time ago!), I remember going to a local AME for the combo student certificate & class 2 medical required by the Parks College flight department the summer before starting.

Ah yes, now I remember the IACRA. I started training in 2015 and finished in 2016. My instructor helped me setup my IACRA account right before my check ride in 2016.
Thanks for your post.

Also while I was training, the flight school went from a part 61 school to a part 141 school while I was there.

The medical in advance is not a puppy mill thing. It's been a long-time recommendation to avoid the expense of flight training and then learning you don't qualify medically when you are seeking certificates that require an FAA medical.

These days, getting the student certificate is part of the vetting process and there no reason not to do it at or near the beginning even in the Part 61 environment.

But the OP said he's not interested in going to a flight school now.

As others pointed out, the student pilot certificate was decoupled from the medical in 2016. When I got mine in 1981, the medical form had a student pilot certificate on the application that if you only needed the medical, your AME tore off and threw away. Student Pilot+ medical was "goldenrod" where the straight medical was white.

When I got my private in 1982, the certificate was white and still paper. It wasn't until the FAA made you stop using SSNs as certificate numbers that I got the plastic one.

But the OP said he's not interested in going to a flight school now.
Right, I thought maybe he was getting prepared in advance because a school told him he needed it up front.

Agree that getting the medical right before flight training is the smart move.

And I'd think getting the student pilot certificate at the same time you start flight training is smart as well, especially for the flight school.

Now, there's a slim chance the OP is talking about the instructor sign off on the written test. If that's the case, then the King on line school should have printed off that document when the OP took the final on line test.

When I was in my 20's, I was sitting at the bar at a local tavern, and a pretty nice looking, well dressed girl came in and sat down beside me. She ordered a drink, and asked the bartender if she could watch the XYZ game/fight/something on the TV. He said no, she replied it would be easy, he just had to switch to some channel, he said they couldn't do it, she said never mind the drink and left. I was confused. He smiled, and said that that wasn't random. That there were some sort of regulations on what could or couldn't be played in a public setting, and she was most likely trying to set them up.

No idea if that's the OP's game, either as a person or some kind of a reporter, but it does read like that. I'm not a CFI, but pretty sure you have to either prove citizenship or a TSA clearance before starting flight training. If OP knows that, they might be trying to sneak around that requirement. The other possibility that comes to mind is that the OP is a youngster living w/ parents and trying to jump start the process. If that's it, be patient, stick with the process, you'll get up their soon enough.

Yeah, that. I can’t imagine a flight school or independent CFI starting any flight training until the person has been verified.

LOL LOL LOL, ya think !!! Lol Lol Lol

It changed in 2016. Stand by for more breaking news :D

I guess its been a while. yes i edited some bits. This was the first one I found.... the form did change to a white paper without the student pilot cert part sometime in the 2000's. I honestly don't think I ever read the white paper forms other than to sign it.. I assumed it was still the same arrangement.

The plastic card for certificates is a PITA... I must have a dozen or so due to new ratings/certs/address changes.

All due respect to Charlie Tayor but they really need to put all the certs on one card.

Yah, the world has changed, No more taking the kid hanging on the perimeter fence for a ride (adults too).

As someone who has worked at many airports (large, small, military and civilian) I will say its more luck than security that it hasn't happened again.

Also needing a background check to fly an inner city yute in the pattern for 10 minutes is simply ridiculous.
