Wife's puter, IBM with WinXP. Avast installed and current, active.

While she was inserting a pic from a Paint doc, the Word document she was working on starting typing nonsensical sentences using recognizable words into the document, unbidden.

Stopped instantly when she turned off the wireless switch.

No other computers within 1/4mile. No wireless devices around such as mice/keyboards.

Scanning at this time.

Virus proof, is it?

Will anyone else be able to open the files she types?

Tks.

Virii are not written for WP.

And yes, WP supports saving in pretty much any format you choose. Unlike MS, they don't purposely change formats to force updates to be purchased.

sounds unbeatable. Forward commission directly to you, or will they send your cut?
Tks.

I read about that when I did the search but she has not messed with any such settings. Will verify.

actually sounds like the speech to text transcription got turned on.

Well, Dave, does your wife talk to herself out loud when typing into Word? :D

Since it stopped when the wireless router was turned off, any chance somebody had logged in to the machine remotely and was controlling it somehow? Just as a prank?

If it was a voice translator, it sure is nfg - had her conversation been really like what was typed, I'd be running her into the emerg ward of the local hospital for stroke assessment.

Sure seemed like remotely-accessed because it stopped when the wireless sw was thrown, but it has not occurred again. The scan was negative, fwiw.

The voice transcrition needs to be "trained" for the person(s) that use it. I once saw stuff being typed because the voice transcription was picking up a nearby radio speaker. A couple of parts of a song were actually transcribed before I figured it out.
