Midwest POA June Brunch: June 22, 2024 1000 CDT, The Jet Room at KMSN, Madison, WI.

I am out this weekend. Flying to OLV in the morning and have plans Saturday. Working Sunday.
 
I often see posts about POA gatherings after it's too late to act on them. Is there a schedule for these?

No, not really, at least not for the Midwest bunch. Just a pack of stray dogs that say “hey, you wanna meet at ___ on ___?” Maybe monthly. Jim K seems to be the pack leader, loosely, on this one.

I bet if you start your own, you’ll get your own pack of strays. Just invite folks to your home-drome for lunch to start?

If you check the Cool Places to Fly subforum (vs Recent Threads) you might get a little more heads up.

A few years back there were a lot more.

This Midwest one seems to be most consistent, but I think I saw a Southeast one and maybe a few others.

Then the bigger ones seem to be Rough River and 69Y and OSH.

Someone more knowledgeable will chime in.

I reserved the Cessna, arranged childcare, and I should finish planting today, but the forecast for tomorrow is pretty sketchy here.

Seems like there’s a fair bit of uncertainty. Id like to see this evenings taf & forecast discussion. I don't mind a little imc, but I also don't want to get stuck in Indiana.

I'm in the "game-time-decision" camp with an eye on the weather. This is a very active system with uncertainty between models.
 
I'm inclined to try it. Obviously that could change in the morning. @NealRomeoGolf if you decide to go and feel like picking me up, let me know.

@N4984R are you going again regardless of if anyone shows up?
 
[mention]Jim K [/mention] i plan to go as long as there aren’t thunder boomers to skirt around. I’m good with going as long as the current TAF for tomorrow morning doesn’t deteriorate. If it goes IFR w/o storms and crazy winds I’ll take advantage of it and shoot a couple approaches and get some good food to eat.

Well, I was looking to go, but doesn’t look like weather is going to cooperate for me. IFR and TS forecast for the area later today. I’d like to see you all again, but not at the expense of getting stuck in Columbus, IN. I’d rather be sitting here in Columbus, OH watching the TS pass by!

What time works out with your schedule? Later is selfishly better for me, but if you already have plans, you make the call.


Planning ahead... for June, a fellow PA32 owner manages H96, Benton, IL (next to Rend Lake). They have a "second Saturday" fly in every month in the summer with food trucks and a small car show. I'd humbly suggest we crash that party on June 11.

Really @Jim K ? I’ve got a three day trip to CMI this week. Talk about “stuck”. Trip Advisor’s number 1 thing to do is the public library! :)

Let me know if you have time for a beer. I’ll be there Monday to Thursday.

We're really not a hotspot unless you're super into farming. Best soil on the face of the earth.

Ironically I'm trying to figure out a trip to macon this week. I don't suppose I could bum a ride with your client? :biggrin: @NealRomeoGolf was going to take me but he has to "go to work" and "feed his family" or something. Weather kind of sucks all week though.

I'd love to get together. I'll shoot you a message when I figure out my week. Likely Wednesday.

And a university! Great place to be if you are 20 or so years old. But I reckon the TripAdvisor best tour is “Leaving Champaign.”

I’m winging by your area Sunday after breakfast at Buncles, but getting to Macon looks proper sporting. Next weekend, if you are still looking for a ride and want to throw some gas money my way, we can get it figured out. We’ll get some hilarious photos of you and me side-by-side while admiring the leg room of a Mooney.

It's more like "enable my bratty kids" but I mask it by buying groceries too. :cool:
 
Peoria has a nice steakhouse where you select your steaks out of a cooler and either have someone cook it for you or cook it yourself hanging with friends and cocktails. Alexander’s maybe? Can’t remember.

Peoria has a casino too, and some nice restaurants along the river.
