Lets spend Bryan's money!

I think that's a bit more than "partial opening." Wanna say that line was no more than 10-12 inches back and 113 kt limit. Still brings a lot of cool air in. You'll have airplane hair when you land.

Yeah. I flew in one and we cracked the thing maybe 2 inches. It was plenty.
I wouldn't open it on climbout (extra drag) or landing (Extra drag + go around = no good)
In cruise, it is likely not going to be that hot.

Now on the slow and low local burger runs and on the on the taxiway, this will be awesome.

Yeah, I used to slow down to at least 80 kts as well. Too fast and the wind will slap your hand back into the canopy.

Got locked inside once. Kind of a pain if you forget to check the lock and shut it while you're in.

Explain the getting locked inside thing.
The seller mentioned that to me but I am not sure I follow.
I really don't want to get locked inside a plane.

Locks, keys, you guys have complicated planes. This is the canopy lock for my plane. Can not be used from the inside. ;)

His own private dedicated line service technician (me).

No one's gonna put out a red carpet with 2 water bottles on the corner and cookies on standby without his Cirrus otherwise!
Off topic, but I've been meaning to ask;
How's married life treating you my friend?

Our biggest argument so far has been about bread. I would say that is pretty good! Yesterday was the one month anniversary, today is my birthday (ripe old age of 26).

Everyone tells me the worst is yet to come though! I don't think so though :p known each other since high school, in a relationship for 3 years, engaged another 1.5, lived together for about 3 years.

The weirdest thing was being forced to sleep in different rooms by her parents even while engaged. Went up there last week to pick up a rifle and a few other things and they were almost pushing us into the bedroom! That's gonna take some getting used to.

Ha! Happy birthday old man!

Sounds like things couldn't be going any better!

They explain it here under #8. Not sure what they are referring to with the "lock release catch." There is a canopy release lever on the pilot's side overhead but that won't release the canopy if it's locked. If I had a separate lever to unlock the canopy from the inside, I wasn't aware of it. It's not covered in the POH either.

Just have the owner give you a good checkout on the operation of the locking mechanism.

  1. Slamming the canopy shut with the lock in the locked position will trap you inside the plane. You can open the lock with the red tab located on the pilots side of the latch cover. Failing that, you may climb out the baggage door.

I see a 6PC video re this coming.

... I've gotten the impression that the "red tab" (not to be confused w red handle) in some airplanes do not work to owners satisfaction.
Also do some research on how/when the canopy seals can stick together preventing ingress (the best use for your pilot's certificate card - I'm not telling).

I think that was my situation I got in. I couldn't get the tab to unlock it. Fortunately, just slipped the key through the crack in the canopy and a friend opened it from outside.:D

I can hear it now: "Northwest traffic - Grumman 4JB - need an unlock - ATITAPA - Northwest"

Would this be Pan-Pan or May-Day? Probably depends on OAT.

I noticed the exhaust doesn't have the little shroud over it that mine had. Not sure if it is an option or not but I think it looks a little better with the shroud around it. Might give a knot more airspeed! :D

Nah, go for the PowerFlow exhaust and unleash that HP!

I was thinking about that upgrade as well when I had mine. It was just a little too pricey for the gain in HP.

At least Bryan has all three wheel pants though. Not many Travelers had all three when I was shopping for one. Mine just had main "hub caps." Eventually bought main pants with no gear fairings. Gave me about 117 KTAS.

This one actually doesn't have a baggage door. I thought that was a little unusual.

They forgot to put rivets in the wing and they forgot the baggage door? Dude, get yer money back...

Both deletions are speed mods. Should've (probably did) paid extra for those

Purple IS the fancy stuff. Very few have/HAD it.

I wanna say pre-1974s didn't come with the door. Mine was a 74 so I had it. Wasn't a very big door though. Just enough to slip through if you got locked in. :D

In all seriousness though, I would like to see a vid on that red tab release. Perhaps I was doing it wrong. Wouldn't be the first time.

I vote for hookers and coke!

Now I'm going to go back and read this thread from the beginning to see what we're talking about.

The mental picture that put in my minds eye made me laugh so hard I farted the cat out of the room...!!!

I pictured it with an empty Gatorade bottle sitting outside on the wing.....and the FBO is closed for the night....

Oh I always carry some sort of plexiglass breaking device. Fortunately it didn't come down to it. FBO was open and my friend that worked there came out and unlocked us.
